Is Robotron 2084 available on the Nintendo DS?

Post by Anayo »

I played this for the first time at an arcade and wish I could play it on my 3DS. The D-pad and ABXY buttons seem like they'd translate really well to the arcade's twin joysticks.

To my knowledge, there is no way to play Robotron 2084 on a Nintendo DS or 3DS (unless you are using an emulator). I think that there is a port on Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits for the the GBA, however, so you may be able to play it on a DS Lite (but not with the control scheme you are seeking...)

In any event, you may want to pick up one of the Midway Arcade Classics for the PS2 or Xbox. Both will allow you to play the game with dual analog sticks...which is at least pretty close to the arcade experience.

Finally, if you really like Robotron 2084 (and you should because it is an awesome game), you may want to try out Smash TV and Geometry Wars. From a game play perspective, Smash TV is almost a sequel to Robotron 2084, and Geometry Wars borrowers a lot of game play elements from it. Also...both games are awesome.

Yeah my quick google research seemed to indicate that... (who the heck would want to play that on a GBA, anyway? That's even goofier than street fighter with that control scheme.)

I also found the console versions of Midway Treasures but was hoping a portable version could be found for my 3DS XL's massive screen... I guess not though.

I played the DS version of Geometry Wars, though! It was pretty sick.

Robotron used an 8-way stick so I don't think 4 buttons would work well emulating that.

Edit: Maybe it would I suppose. Holding two buttons could work for the diagonals.

I know it's not the same but Geometry Wars Galaxies is kind of interesting on the DS if you're a Robotron 2084 fan.

Agree, Geometry Wars is special. If you happen on the Wii Geometry Wars, it can "link" with the DS Geometry Wars which places a permanent unlock in your save file of a new section on both games. The Wii version also has Twinstick capability with a Classic Controller. You can even play it just like the original Robotron Arcade panel with the right adapter and an Arcade style console Twin Stick.

Nice to read about someone who has played the Robotron Arcade, one of the earlier grand Twinstick games. There are so many gems to try out with this obscure style of game play.

Robotron would make a lot more sense on a twin-stick controller, like the aforementioned Geometry Wars.

It works ok on the SNES port, but obviously 2 sticks is better.

I dunno, something tells me I might get more out of two D-pads. I play street fighter better on a dual shock controller than with an arcade stick so I don't see why Robotron 2084 would be any different for me.

I think this would be a great idea! I grew up playing llamatron, Jeff Minters tribute to Robotron and always wanted a to play with something approaching the original control scheme.
