I have meant to play this game for a while, but I always see reviews, videos and screenshots and have no idea what's going on. Then the interest fades.

jfrost, think of it like a big space exploration game, but when you go to fight it is a multidirectional shooter - ala Sinistar. Now I have never finished the actual storyline, I always go straight to multiplayer - entitled Melee or Super Melee. Then you just have two players pick a lineup of starships and go to battle with them. I was confused at first that there are two very different elements to the game, but after playing it for a bit it works really well. And if nothing else, Melee is a blast and never gets old.

And if you don't like the ship-to-ship combat you can always let the computer take control of your units. It actually does a pretty good job, and has the reflexes to fully utilize certain ships to their utmost. So if you're good at picking the proper counters you can completely avoid that section of the game.

wait....what!?. I have play this game a lot in the past but my only gripe was the battle, which i was never good at. i never had any idea about this. funny thing is, the option was probably right in front of my nose, and if i ever did notice it once I'm thinking my pride got the better of me.

Yeah, when I first played through the game I put the computer on control of my ships, since I was terrible at it. The computer can do some amazing things, like take an Arilou Skiff against an Ilwrath Avenger and completely demolish it, and perfectly time the Utwig shield to be invincible against most enemies.
