That's awesome. I've been using Clickteam's products since way back in the day with Klik n Play and The Games Factory, and it's been simply amazing to watch their software evolve. I know one of the later versions has a Flash and iOS export feature, but I never would have guessed it would ever get a feature to export games to a console. I'll have to check it out for sure.

I got started with TGF a long time back. I'm pretty comfortable in the program, but I haven't used it in a long time.

Transitioning from that to actual programming was a little bumpy to say the least. It's kinda a shock when you realize just how much MMF is actually doing for you, even with how flexible it is.

Ideally, if I ever did get off my ass and start tinkering with my game I'd really want it to be a Dreamcast game. I'm just not sure there's an easy way to make a DC game y'know? Not that I've spent any serious time looking into it, though.

Doing something for PC or just learning programming in general are good first steps, I think.

AFAIK, Most Dreamcast homebrew is coded in C. If that's really something you want to persue, learning C might be the best first step.

I need to learn C one of these days

yeah. Was hoping there was something more n00b friendly like the programs you're talking about that could export to C (or whatever is needed for a DC homebrew). The whole "learning C is a good place to start" is kind of why after 3 years I basically just have all the ideas in my head instead of actually ever starting on it. Haha.

Hm, how does one get started on NES programming?

And to keep from going totally off-topic...I don't think a shmup exactly as described in the first post exists. There are many where it's beneficial, scoring-wise, to let enemies stay on the screen (usually so they can shoot more bullets which the player can then cancel/reflect/graze/whatever) but I can't think of single one where the enemies' point value increases just based on how long they've been on the screen.

You should make a quick 'n simple tech demo in one of the many game creation tools to see if the idea actually holds water, or if it's just something that looks good on paper. Don't need proper graphics or anything, just make plain, simple boxes for the player and enemies. Shouldn't be too difficult.

I think you should start a notebook w/gaming ideas....who knows....
Sooooo would it be like a timer type of mechanic, like as soon as the enemy appears its point value goes up,or like a distance traveled type of thing....
Did any of that make sense?

This is where I started, it's a good introduction as it assumes no prior programmign knowledge. This combined with tons of lurking on NesDev. I think I find myself crawling through NesDev's forums more often than actually working on code.

That sound tutorial there is invaluable by the way. I absolutely suggest you jump straight into that once you've finished the first 10 tutorials, as it teaches you a lot of important stuff that'll help you in all kinds of other areas.
