I just got back from Eugene, OR and visited by three barcades:

Level Up
Blair Alley
Shoryuken League

Level up was the the best overall, good mix of new and old. Blair was too retro for me, a lot of pins. Shoryuken, as the name implies, is focused on fighting games but does mix it up with 90's beat'em ups and other gems. The "west" or at least Eugene Oregon has a healthy bar-cade scene.

Those all look awesome! However, I am actually talking about a place called "barcade".

This isn't news, it is a discussion. Moving to the general area.

You know what was great about arcades? They forced you to get out of the house, get some exercise. Plus, you had to stand up to play them, and probably sweat a little due to you having this intense experience in a small, hot place. We probably burned more calories in the arcades than we ever did sitting on our lazy butts at home playing console games.

Also, arcades were full of people. It was a nice social opportunity. The more I think about it, arcade gaming was a healthier gaming experience in various ways than home console gaming ever has been. I miss those days. I also miss the magic and wonder of arcades, especially before 16-bit technology started to close the gap

If you're ever in the Seattle area, make sure you head up north to "Another Castle" in Edmonds. It's an excellent retro games store with a few rooms full of classic arcade machines. The staff has been real nice in my experience as well, and they even make repro carts if you ask about them.
