Being a form of carbon, diamond oxidizes in air if heated over 700 °C.[37] In absence of oxygen, e.g. in a flow of high-purity argon gas, diamond can be heated up to about 1700 °C.[38][39] Its surface blackens, but can be recovered by re-polishing. At high pressure (~20 GPa) diamond can be heated up to 2500 °C,[40] and a report published in 2009 suggests that diamond can withstand temperatures of 3000 °C and above.[41]
I heard that in an old EC horror comic (don't remember which one, or the story's name, but it was a Russ Cochran reprint and the story revolved around a doctor with bills piling up and hid a diamond ring in a dead patient's tumor but discovered that the body was cremated, making the retrieval of the ring impossible).

Not a great movie. With the phoned-in script, I don't think this is technically even a "good movie". But I enjoy pretty much anything with Tom Green in it, and personally had a blast watching him in a family comedy. Watch this with your kids if you'd like, they'd probably love it.

I just saw Brave, the Pixar film. It was...dissapointing, not much actually happens in a sense and you keep watching and watching yet it never you know, delivers. I didn't really come with any expectations, I just wanted a fun, charming film about cute stuff but it fell short.

It feels watered down. It doesn't have any big flaws or anything it's just...not there.

Finally saw The Hobbit. I really enjoyed it, though I was surprised to see how much was added to make it mesh better with the LotR films. None of these scenes really detracted from the movie, but a couple felt a bit unnecessary. It's a visually gorgeous film. I saw it in 3D because that was the only daytime screening. The 3D effects were kinda blah and I didn't even notice the fact that the film was 48 frames per second.

A couple of things that bugged me:
- Most of the songs are not in this film including the two best (Down, Down to Goblin Town and Funny Little Things).
- I'm really nitpicking here, but the Goblin King doesn't say "Who are these miserable persons?" like he does in the book and Rankin/Bass film. I always chuckled at the delivery of that line, it's very Seinfeld-ian.

Overall, great movie - sucks I have to wait a year for the next one.

Those were my thoughts as well. Though, I did enjoy the addition at the very beginning. I thought that was nice.
MrPopo wrote:So I just got out of Les Mis, and holy shit. If you're at all a fan of musical theater I highly recommend it.
I just saw it today and I have to agree. Excellent musical. Talented singers (Crowe's better expected, but by no means perfect.) Beautifully framed shots. Gorgeous backgrounds. Excellent set-pieces. I was much more impressed with it than I thought I'd be. A couple of those scenes got me a little misty-eyed

It is a full-on musical, though. So, for anyone who hasn't been paying attention, this isn't the same as a movie like The Sound of Music, where they speak normally and then randomly burst into musical numbers. This movie is 99% singing, with only a handful of spoken words. So if you don't like that, then you're probably not going to like the movie. Just a forewarning.

Saw Django Unchained earlier.

Pretty good. I can see where people are drawing the parallels with other Tarantino movies. Then again, Tarantino has the right way of getting at what I like. At times I felt like I laughed when I shouldn't have, although the whole theater was. I also feel as though the movies ending was a bit of a quick cut off, but that's just me nitpicking.

BRAVE doesn't seem to have a lead that anyone can or would like to relate to. That is the big flaw in my eyes. As annoying as Vanellope was in Wreck It Ralph, you did connect with her at times.

Did Pixar lose some important staff or something over the past few years? Seems like they've kinda lost their touch...
