Choose One Game Only and Why

Post by casterofdreams »

Ok so here is the question:

If you only had the option to play one game, only one game and nothing more than that, forever, what game would it be? And why? It can be one release of a particular game, one disc or file or cartridge it doesn't matter. Compilations too since that's one release. And the point is that I'm curious what people regard as there top game to play.

For me it is going to be Fallout: New Vegas. I have played this game about 4 times already, sank about 250+ hours into it and purchased all the DLC that is available for it. I play as a sneaky explosive guy who went around and killed people with the Silenced .22 Pistol and Abilene Kid LE BB gun in close quarters and the Ratslayer outdoors. I loved reverse pickpocketing a mine or grenade into peoples inventory and I would always raid the Silver Rush and sell my spoils to the Gun Runners. Just some of the things I do.

How 'bout you guys?

Counter Strike or any Source game

Sooo many mods. Mods don't count as games right?

If that's not an option, still leaning towards Counter Strike.

Skyrim most likely but the runners up would be a GTA or just cause 2. Do compilation games count?

If I could only play one game forever, it would be Minecraft.

It's funny because I don't play it that much right now, but that's because it's too time consuming and I have so many other games that I want to play, but if you strip away all those other game I have to play, then what you are left with is Minecraft. Also, no, it's not my favorite game ever. My favorite game ever is Shadow of the Colossus, but that's not a game that you need to play repeatedly, so I wouldn't pick it as my one and only.

I guess something like rpg maker, or any type of game that lets you make other games or create your own levels. I could make tons of game for myself, using just the one as my source

Yeah, that's right. I'm cheating. Just imagine how I would try to con a jeanie with three wishes if I could

You would presume wrongly. If I had to choose one game, I'd choose one that lasted a very long time while still remaining entertaining and one that offered excellent replay value. For me something like Civilization or an RTS would be it, or perhaps an MMO. Heck, I might get into World of Warcraft (assuming it was going to continue, and players would always be playing).

My absolute favorite game, on the other hand, is not any of these. I don't quite know what it is yet (there's a shortlist somewhere), but it's definitely not a game I'd play over and over again for the rest of my life. Once a year or two at most. I would get bored if I could only play e.g. Final Fantasy IV for the rest of my life. At least with Civ there are different paths I could take every time, I could vary up my nations constantly. It'd keep me entertained for a lifetime (I'd hope).

A lifetime of nothing but RPG Maker games sounds like my personal hell.

Compilations count too. The Orange Box it up if you'd like. One single release. One disc. One cartridge. I should probably reword the post. Sorry bout that.

You're right about the favorite game part. I assumed the most favored because that reflected my answer.

Would you prefer that route, though? It seemed like that's what you really wanted. Perhaps the question should be reworded to: "if you could play only one game once, which game would that be?" My answer then is probably Final Fantasy IV, whence sprung my creativity.
