So when I get an Ouya console (I backed the regular console, I think?), mine will be a dev console, right? I would have had to pay more for a special dev console, right?
OUYA: Open Source Console - Kickstarted in 1 Day
Re: OUYA: Open Source Console - Kickstarted in 1 Day
"Of course, when the final consoles ship, EVERY OUYA will be a dev console. We told you that already. What we didn’t tell you was that the advance dev consoles you ordered are pretty special – you’ll know what I mean when you open yours. They’re rare drops.
"

OK, just making sure. Thanks. I'm getting pretty excited about this! I don't think I can wait until March!

Personally, I think this OUYA console will fail. If I was a game developer, why the heck would I make games for it when people will just pirate it anyway. I'd rather just release my games on a more established service like the Android market (everyone has phones). In the beginning there will be the usual hype but in the end, this console will just have crappy ports of casual shit like Angry Birds and eventually fail.
But that's just my opinion, go buy it if you want to!

It isn't just your opinion. Many people have made this point, myself included. When a developer has the choice between millions of paying users on iOS or a few thousand people on a platform that has "rootable" as one of its selling points, who would choose the latter?GodofHardcore wrote:Personally, I think this OUYA console will fail. Add in the fact that their marketing has been borderline fraudulent at times and I can't believe anyone making a game with more depth than Angry Birds would give it serious time.

Android market is terrible for piracy as well. ios will get you the best sales.GodofHardcore wrote:Personally, I think this OUYA console will fail. That said, I am looking forward to it. For one, if I've already developed the game for ios, porting to android is probably worth the time. Once it's ported to android, it's basically ready for OUYA. Two, most my games would be more at home on a device with a controller. People who buy OUYA will be more likely to be interested in console style platformers/shooters/etc. As big as the iphone market seems to be, there is a very small group who are interested in these types of games. The average iphone owner plays words with friends. Android is even worse, with a minimal gamer base and piracy issues. So while my games could technically be considered iphone "ports", they're made more with the OUYA's hardware and userbase in mind, they just happen to be on iphone first.
There are also plenty of developers working on OUYA games right now. I have no idea if it will sell well or be worthwhile in the end, and I wouldn't plan my future salary around it, but I'm hoping for the best.

Thanks for the optimism, Jrecee! I'm looking forward to buying and playing your game when it comes out!

It's official: we are running out of unused game titles. "Legend of Dungeon"?

I admit that I already regret kick starting this. May just sell mine sealed.
