Does Anybody Still Play on an actual GB/GBC?
Re: Does Anybody Still Play on an actual GB/GBC?
I own a Super Game Boy, so I tend to play my GB games on that...

I use a GBASP or Gameboy Player for GB/GBC games.

I sold my GBA when I got a DS, but I wish I still had it for original GB titles. So that's how I would play them if I had one. I think they look pretty damn good on a GBA.

Yeah you can buy new batteries, but as soon as you take the old one out your save is gone. Its sucks but it happens with all cartridges eventually. I was suprised considering that i have older GB games that have kept thier saves, i think maybe its to do with the number of times you save.ZeroAX wrote:is there a way to change the battery when it dies?turbolegs wrote:I refuse to play on actual cartridges anymore. Not after my Pokemon Red cart decided its battery would die, permenantly deleting my save (and a damn good save at that). I use lameboy most of the time. I do miss the green tinged screen on the orginal fat gb though.

I assume it should be possible use a backup battery (a third one) and use some wires to make it feed just outside the + and - feeds that are the normal connections for the battery. Then remove the used battery and put the new one while the backup is keeping the save alive. But you'll need to be careful to keep the cables in place, and considering we are talking about cartridges for a handheld game there is bound to be very little space to do this, so in practice it may actually be just about impossible.turbolegs wrote:Yeah you can buy new batteries, but as soon as you take the old one out your save is gone. Even if it is possible, I don't think it is worth the trouble unless you really have loads of hours in the game. I just try to finish cartridge games instead of leaving them to simmer for that long, then take pictures of the finished game if I think it is worth it (recently, Boktai 2 with all titles, 60 hours put into that). Same goes for saves in the Saturn - I try to finish them soon after starting, to lower the risk of the battery going out during the weeks while I'm playing the game and need the save to be there.

I didn't think anybody else took pictures of thier game saves lol.
I have one hell of a collection of Resident Evil photos showing my clear times and ranks.
I am a complete nut about keeping my best save files. All my PS1 and PS2 files are backed up on my PC, and i try to use emulators to play older games like GB, SNES etc, just so i can keep them.
I seem to have had back luck with all my saves, the final straw must have been when my 120 hour FFX save got corrupted. I went ape for a day, then managed to fix it

I have a greyscale gameboy that I still play older cartridges on. I have the gameboy player on my gamecube, but the blur on the original hardware is just nostalgic for me.
