Morbid Saint - Lock Up Your Children
I just cant get over how awesome this band is. I'm neither Thrash nor Death expert but I find both sort of boring. Something like early Metallica or Megadeth just doesn't sound that heavy or aggressive (partly) because of the clean vocals, while death metal like Cannibal Corpse just sounds bland and unintresting to me. I hate low growl vocals (dont even get me started on pig squealing  ). I really like the sort of shrieking vocals that melodic death metal like Ensiferum, early Children of Bodom, Wintersun etc has. Morbid Saint seems to me like the happy medium between the two genres, just love the vocals and how rough it sounds compared to melodeath. Crying For Death is their best song imo.

I'm not saying that I dislike all Thrash (Slayer, Violator and Sodom are cool) and Death, and I'm sure I'd learn to like both genres more if I had more exposure, so don't crucify me :)

I basically agree with you, Menegrothx.

I really dislike clean male vocals in metal. It's one reason I've never been crazy about traditional doom metal or most regular old "heavy metal" - Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Mercyful Fate, Acrimony, Lake of Tears, and a few others are notable exceptions.

Metallica and Megadeth (even their "good" old stuff) always sounded a little too "buttrock" for my taste.

I disagree with your assessment of low growls though - low growls kick ass!

It's funny to me when people say they don't like clean vocals. It's kind of like hearing someone say that they don't like hearing people actually sing. Growling and screaming into the microphone is so much better

I like both clean vocals and growls and whatever else exists in between. Everything has its place in metal, just depends on the band's style

I don't dislike all clean vocals myself. Iron Maiden, King Diamond/Mercyful fate and Manowar are good examples of bands with clean male vocals that I like. I dont think it's even possible to dislike Iron Maiden though, they've made so many albums that you're almost bound to like atleast a few songs! King Diamond is a really weird mix of super high and low "evil" yet clean vocals, some times it's annoying, some times it works. Whether clean male vocals work or not depends on the genre and what kind of voice the singer has.

I personally really like Freedom Call and Dragonforce because of the high pitched, happy and clean male vocals. It's just so uplifting and euphoric.
Freedom Call - Warriors
Freedom Call - Warriors of Light
Freedom Call - Freedom Call
Dragonforce - Valley of the Damned
If you've played a Paladin in World of Warcraft pre-BC (or any kind of holy warrior/crusader type of character in any WRPG), or if you're a christian, then you simply cant dislike this type of music

Besides metal I dont really understand the appeal in music with a high emphasis on vocals/lyrics/singing. I can't understand how bands like U2, Coldplay and Red Hot Chili Peppers are so popular. I'd rather listen to hip hop than to any kind of light pop/rock music! It all sounds so sissified and boring, often times very pretentious too

I like both types of vocals. And I also like butt rock. Metallica and Megadeth I don't consider butt-rock, though. They're thrash, at least Metallica's older stuff could be considered as such, and they're later stuff hard-rock. Megadeth still plays hard and fast.

I consider butt-rock to be 80s hair-metal bands, which I also adore. I'm a big fan of a lot of 80s stuff and I dig these bands just as much. Bands like Cinderella, Motley Crue, Ratt, Skid Row, Dokken, and solo Ozzy Osbourne are what I'd consider butt-rock.

Speaking of Ratt, this is one of the best songs in GTA Vice City imo. V Rock had some great songs, Two minutes to midnight, Raining blood, Peace Sells, She Sells Sanctuary, I wanna Rock, Cum on feel the noize and round and Round.

I have! At least, I've heard Sumerian Daemons. It was pretty good, though I don't really listen to it much anymore. What's your favorite album by them?

The Great Mass probably, I honestly haven't skipped/stopped listening to a single song by them when I listen to them on Pandora (haven't gotten any CD's yet :/).

Picked up the new Job For A Cowboy, Nachtmystium and Nile albums today at FYE. They have quite the selection, but I stuck to stuff $10 or less. As much as I love Cattle Decapitation, I wasn't going to pay $14 for Monolith of Inhumanity.

The biggest surprise of my FYE trip was that they didn't have a single Slayer album on display

What do you mean by 'low growls' Menegrothx? You talking about that obviously pitch shifted goregrind type ultra-low sound or are you referring to just growls in general?

Favorite metal vocalist, clean, harsh, or otherwise. (not sure some of those really high notes 'count' but whatever)

There's quite a few metal vocalists I enjoy and admire actually. Harsh, clean, etc.

I like Harsh and Clean, but absolutely no squeals or screaming. On Harsh vocals, I'm also picky that they don't sound funny. For every good harsh vocalist, there's one that makes you laugh, even if they are trying.

For the past few days, I've been listening to Morbid Angel's second album: Blessed are the Sick. I didn't care much for it at first, but I think it's starting to grow on me.

Speaking of Morbid, I've finally listened to Morbid Saint's Spectrum of Death in its entirety. A badass album faceripper of an album. I'm definitely going to have to get that Thrashaholic set.
