Great youtube Retro game review series...
Hi all,
I stumbled over this British youtube retro game reviewer and it's really good. Thought you might like it:
A Trip to Nintendoland - Part 1: Riding the Zeitgeist of a Zombie Nation (NES reviews)

A Trip to Nintendoland - Part 2: Punched Out (NES reviews)

A Trip to Nintendoland - Part 3: Super Powered Sushi 'n' Chips (SNES Reviews)

I think he mainly does Sega stuff but the Nintendo series is a blast.

I really love Game Sack. They really are the best YouTube game reviewers out there right now, largely because of the wide gamut of games and systems they cover. spida1a's Turbo Views and Lazy Game Reviews are pretty decent too.

I would "like" this post.HungryGarou wrote:I really love Game Sack. They really are the best YouTube game reviewers out there right now, largely because of the wide gamut of games and systems they cover. spida1a's Turbo Views and Lazy Game Reviews are pretty decent too.
I thought the old Classic Game Room with Dave was amazing however (like, the VERY first web show they had from the late 90's/early 2000's). They had a really great chemistry going on then. The recent episodes are still decent though.

The old CGR stuff is hilarious to me because it looks like projects we did at my high school (had a lot of high tech programs available and stuff, video announcements, audio & video production, game design, etc). Charming stuff. I like most of his new stuff too though, but only when he does them solo. The other people he brings in are completely awful, but that original guy he was teamed up with was pretty good. Would be cool to see them team up again.
Game Sack is hilarious.
Huh, they must have deleted this one guy I liked... he had some piercings, a hot girlfriend that randomly bought him some epic stuff one episode, and always had this big bookcase of games and stuff behind him. That's pretty vague, but yeah, any idea? Maybe I'm just not subscribed to him.

Happy Console Gamer? He's awesome as well! I love his enthusiasm... you can tell he truly loves video games. Tells great nostalgic stories of playing the games back in the day and does great coverage of game series. Good stuff.Xeogred wrote:Huh, they must have deleted this one guy I liked... he had some piercings, a hot girlfriend that randomly bought him some epic stuff one episode, and always had this big bookcase of games and stuff behind him. lol yeah that's definitely Happy Console Gamer. I've watched most of his videos, he's into the same sort of games that I am (like Ys and Phantasy Star).
Other than Happy Console Gamer, I mainly just watch the Angry Video Game Nerd.

Re: Great youtube Retro game review series...
Is this a "recommend good youtube game reviewers" thread now? Ok then
TotalBiscuit his" WTF is..."- series is great. 20-40 minute straight up gameplay videos (with commentary, no script) of games that might otherwise go under the radar. He's also an eSports commentator and has an awesome voice&accent.
Matt Chatt. His reviews are kinda bad so ignore them (although they focus on retro games that not many people know of so they're worth checking out if you're looking for hidden gems) but he is an excellent interviewer. He uploads developer interviews (usually 20+ minutes long) on a weekly basis and he has interviewed some legendary game developers over the years.
Lazy Game Reviews. Hardware and oldschool PC game reviews, quality stuff.
Classic Game Room. Not particularly informative or well written interviews (well, there is no script) but they are entertaining and cover a wide range of platforms from 2600 to 360.
Happy Video Game Nerd well written reviews of retro games that usually only are appreciated on sites like this. Nothing really obscure though, just games that most casual gamers usually dont know of.
Errant Signal. Great video essays on different subjects, some times he just analyzes and reviews games, some times he talks about subjects like gamification and kinaesthetics.
Although not a youtube series, Zero Punctuation is pretty funny and well written (it's contradictory at times though).
Just look at these two videos to see what I mean

I like some of his memory/story videos but he just doesn't know how to review games. He shouldn't put the word "review" in the title if he has no clue how to structure a review. I think Matt Chatt has the same problem, but Happy Console Gamer is way, way worse. Almost no gameplay footage what so ever, just comments like "yeah this is a nice RPG but the voice acting is HORRIBLE" and so on.dogman91 wrote: Happy Console Gamer? He's awesome as well! Eh, I like Happy Console Gamer's casual style. Watching one of his videos is like shooting the shit with one of my gaming friends.
He's certainly loads better than all the pretentious "gaming historian" know-it-all types that have been flooding YouTube lately.
