This is exactly what I've been telling people when they ask me about what's impressive about the system. That MCM design is paying off. Not having a HDD drive is saving it quite a bit of power too.Niode wrote:What nobody seems to be focusing on is that this is 360 beating graphics fidelity which uses less than 40w of power. Don't really have to worry about a solid state system like the wii-u. The PS3 doesn't like being turned off because of its physical HDD. The Wii-U is flash memory so it won't really matter if the power gets tripped. I've only heard of people having crashing systems on here though so far... maybe you guys are just unlucky?retrosportsgamer wrote:noiseredux wrote:yeah, I've heard that freezing games saves electricity.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:

I cringe doing this when my PS3 gets like this, and I had to do it twice today when playing for the first time. I wonder if its just a Nintendoland thing or something.

Considering that cell phones/tablets are expected to meet/surpass 360 level power in 2013...no, I don't really find it that impressive that a $300+ dedicated gaming device isn't shooting a bit higher.Cronozilla wrote:This is exactly what I've been telling people when they ask me about what's impressive about the system. I mean, sure, in an objective, state of technology kind of way, it's very cool. But, most people are probably not going to buy a game console due to it having impressive power consumption for late 2012.
Kinda depends. I'm fairly sure if I unplugged my PC right now, there'd be some risk of messing up the file system on my SSD. People have bricked Wii Us by turning them off mid-update.Don't really have to worry about a solid state system like the wii-u.
It's not like the older systems with no internal storage to be in the middle of writing to.
Nothing special in that regard anyway - 4GB Arcade 360s and (soon, at least) 16GB PS3s in Europe have the same kind of setup.
There are plenty of reports of crashing systems elsewhere too. Kotaku has a video for example.I've only heard of people having crashing systems on here though so far... maybe you guys are just unlucky?

The guy who drives a 76 cadillac convertible 75 miles a day(120 km) with no emissions equipment and a 8.2 litre v8 engine cares about power consumption. 28 gallon tank is always gone in about 5 days haha. As long as I'm not around to feel the effects of what I do I could really care less. And I liked the past generation of consoles ok. But im thinking that the new generation will be underwhelming at best. But who knows maybe MS or Sony will get their head kn the game. The wii u feels like a terrible idea and its hound to fail. At least in relevence to the original wii. I doubt anyone whould have nouhg the wii if it didn't have motion controls and now nintendo is trying a new gimmick. Except this game nobody cares. In the wise words of public enemy "don't believe the hype. "Niode wrote:Arbitern1 wrote:I definitely wont buy one. Nintendo really got my blood boiling with the wii. It was my primary console last gen. It was just so nice only having 3-4 good games to play a year-_-. Ill wait at least 2 years to pick one up. Besides the launch titles are mostly ports. I would have considered getting one if pikmin 3 was released at launch but nope. Plus I don't want to play another 2d Mario game. They have beaten the horse to death at this point. Rayman legends looks nice. Also how in gods name are they going to offer a 32gb console for 350$ .. seriously? I understand that you can use an external hard drive but he point is I shouldn't have to. Also its moronic that I still cant watch a Dvd in a console in 2012. Man this generation of gaming is going to lick bawlls.
Haha wow, what next? Why can't I toast bread in my PS3... Wah wah, this generation sucks.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are serious. Even as jaded as I am I still sometimes have a hard time believing how goofy people are about stuff these days.
Why does every game system need to play DVDs? Do I really need 3 systems that do the exact same thing?
I don't remember any of my friends being confused by the slight title change of Super Nintendo or Game Boy Color. I know none of us thought it was outrageous that our old systems would not be forward compatible.
Seriously I had someone come in the store I work at and get all bent out of shape because the Wii can't play WiiU games.
No matter how excited I get for a system there comes a time around launch when I stop reading about the system. Every logical complaint is clouded by four stupid ones.
