Reviewing the game of Life.

Post by J T »

Life is a first person adventure game in an immense open world that gives you tons of freedom over what you can do. Unfortunately, it has a lot of boring filler material that the developer was clearly using to pad out the experience. For example, just to build up your character to be in any one career class can take years of grinding for experience points in the school system before you even start your first day on the job. Thankfully, there are plenty of enjoyable side quests along the way to make that slog more enjoyable. Be careful though, many of the NPCs are programmed with ridiculously stupid AI.

Another problem with life is that it is hugely unbalanced. If your character spawns in a mansion, you will immediately have an inventory full of items and enough GP to buy yourself whatever equipment you might need to cover up the weaknesses in your character attributes. Meanwhile, if you spawn in the middle of nowhere, you might never be able to build enough inventory or experience to see some of the best parts of the game. It's horribly unfair.

Life has absolutely incredible graphics. The level of detail is bar none the best we've ever seen. Life is the graphical standard against which all other games will be measured. Even twenty years from now, when someone raves about the graphics of another game, someone will still chime in to say "Yeah, but they don't look Life-like."

I haven't beaten the game yet, but it doesn't have a clear end goal. I can't comment on whether the ending is any good or not. Some people claim to know what happens at the end, but their stories are inconsistent, so I think most of them are just making it up.

Came in expecting the third person overhead game. Was disappointed.

Crysis still looks better.

Came in expecting exactly what was delivered. Was pleased and amused.

I've heard some people say that Life has a new game+ mode. That's pretty cool if its true.

I literally LOLed when I read this

Y'know some people say if you do well enough in Life you unlock new game plus mode but nobody has confirmed this yet.

EDIT: Just read earlier responses, turns out some guy made the same joke. Great minds think alike I guess.

The postgame goes on practically forever. Some people enjoy the experience, but I've heard it's positively terrible for others. I think you can really screw yourself with the development choices that you make for your character in the regular game.
