Re: master system
I recommend getting a Japanese one.
Japanese Master System has FM sound which sounds 100% better than European/US master system. It sounds totally different.
Japanese Master System:
US/EUR Master System
I suggest you ask more about this at SMSpower.org.

Re: master system
eBay or Craigslist are probably your best bet. You can usually find them pretty cheap.
As for the Japanese Master System, I had not heard that it had FM sound but it wouldn't surprise me. Until today, I had never seen a Japanese Master System, but just my luck I saw on eBay someone is selling one with 75 games. Unfortunately it's a BIN for $700 shipped! http://cgi.ebay.com/Sega-Master-System- ... dZViewItem
If you have that kind of cash, go for it, but US and European Master Systems go for 20-50 depending on what it comes with.

Re: master system
Master Systems (excluding ones from Japan) can play Master System games from anywhere in the world. US, European, and Brazilian games will all work.
Re: master system
The Master System games are the same shape where ever you buy them. Region free.
However, some few games have NTSC/PAL issues - mostly just crappy games you'll probably never play.
I still enjoy playing Master System games, but I don't have a Master System. I have a Mega Master. If you have a Mega Drive I, you can buy a Master System Converter; there's also one for Mega Drive II, but it is difficult to get one.
If you have a Mega Drive I or II, I recommend getting a Mega Master from Ebay. It's fan-made and is designed to work with both models.
Anyhow, that's just for convenience and because I've heard about the Master System buttons becoming quite stiff over time, but you should be able to buy one from Ebay for cheaper (cheap).
