What's the Primary Source of Your Collection?

Post by Mechblue »

BumbleChump posted this question in the "Deals" thread and seemed like a interesting topic.
BumbleChump wrote:On an unrelated note, this question is for everyone here: Do you find most of your stuff at flea markets? Or garage sales? I haven't had any luck with garage sales, and they take a lot of gas and time getting in and out of your car.
Most of my collection came from Craigslist and Garage sales, very little from eBay and anything that did come from online sources were usually cheap items that are really uncommon here. I was fortunate and started hunting back before the collecting retro games really picked up in the past few years.

Forgot thrift stores, i've scored some amazing items in the past from Goodwill and good ol' St. V-de-P, and don't forget the pawn shops!

So, where did the bulk of your collection come from?

Mine is a mix between craigslist, ebay, racket, and nintendoage. Sprinkle in some local retro stores and flea market.

lots more racket lately, though it's mainly been ebay and amazon. So mostly just online sources.

I'd love to buy locally more often again, but transportation issues have made that difficult. Too bad I don't have any friends who are into the whole retro collecting thing I could tag along with on the hunt.

Ebay has its fair share, but mostly from Racketboy and Game Champ, my local game store. I've come to realize that ebay is mostly worthless unless you find a super cheap deal, because there's so much traffic on the forums that you'll never really need to get a game at this very instance.

I'm gonna have to say Vintage Stock, being one of the lucky few here who has two pretty close by heh.

I buy a lot from amazon nowadays, but I still get a lot of satisfaction out of tracking down cartridge games in stores instead. That's how I got all of my SNES games practically, loads of sought after gems too.

I'm not ashamed to say that I do most of my shopping online. I've gotten just about everything I own now (which honestly isn't much since I don't really collect anymore) from Racketboy, GameTZ, or eBay.

It probably goes without saying that I don't have much luck at all locally. I hit up Goodwill quite often but I have more luck finding controllers/accessories there than (decent) games or consoles. Yard sales usually end up being a waste of time. The local Craigslist is utter crap, you'll hardly ever see anything "retro" posted, and when you do, it's something like this:

So yeah. :/

Local stores and eBay. I mostly buy cheaper old games, but I value my time a lot more than getting a fantastic deal. So what if I pay $10 for a game I could have gotten for $7, it's worth 15 hours of entertainment.

Most of my collection comes from yard sales,cl, flea markets and a game store clean out. I have got a few great things here as well as the random ebay stuff for foxhound. His collection comes from theft and panhandleing from me  he gets stuff at the local store nearby and on here quiet often.
