I'm addicted to eating. If I don't eat, after a while my stomach starts getting these really nasty pains until I eat something.

I get anxious and sometimes depressed if I spend my weekend alone. Severe trauma? No, but there's definitely a psychological impact. Feel like one of those swaying caged circus elephants I do.

I'll stop you there. Whatever you want to call it, "addiction" is the wrong term...

After using narcotics for a year, I quit them cold turkey, and did not suffer what I would consider "severe trauma"

The only thing I know that causes severe trauma when use is stopped is herion/morphine. So, by that definition, the word is pretty much useless.

If you drink a lot of caffeinated drinks, and then stop and feel irritable, tired, or get headaches, I'd say you were addicted on some level.

Granted, I think folks were just having a laugh until we had to define things.

I know I'm not addicted to Coke like someone would be to... uh, coke, but I do get a feeling of 'a fix' when I drink a Coke. I drink 2 or 3 a day. I get headaches if I dont drink them because of my addiction to caffeine.

Well, quitting use of cocaine does not cause severe trauma, its issue is how habbit-forming (most folks just say addicting) it is. Long term use will cause damage, whether or not you quit, so again, by that definition, you cannot be addicted to cocaine, let alone Coca Cola ;)
