Why not? People are scared and running for their lives from killer monsters in a claustrophobic setting. Sounds like a horror movie to me. Yeah, it has a sci-fi setting, but it's still horror, like Event Horizon.Luke wrote:Noise will be quick to point out neither ALIENS nor ALIENS3 are considered horror movies.

Yup, just like The Faculty is more a teen movie, and Braindead a comedy...BurningDoom wrote:Why not? People are scared and running for their lives from killer monsters in a claustrophobic setting. I think the other ones are pretty solid horror movies though...

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I'm alright with lumping Alien(s) in with horror... but speaking of Even Horizon, that's one movie that I personally have never understood the cult following for. To me it's basically one really great scene with 85 mins of meh tacked onto it. I've sat through it twice over the years, and felt the same way both times.
@Chris, your list is kind of split for me. There's def stuff I strongly agree with on there: Dagon, Cabin Fever, Hellraiser, The Thing. And there's some stuff that I think is alright but wouldn't be on a list of mine. A couple I haven't seen yet.
...of note to me, it looks like you don't place slashers too high? That's easily my favorite sub-genre.

I loved Event Horizon. Creepy, atmospheric, and just really cool looking visuals. And I loved the sci-fi setting of it.
I also liked The Faculty. Yeah, it's a teen movie. But it's also a good horror movie, and it appeals to me specifically because it was when I was teen.

Nerp. Space Marines are hunting and mowing down aliens until the stuff hits the fan (which happens in the third act). Aliens is an action movie. People run, and swing butt naked for their lives in a claustrophobic setting in AIRPLANE! but it's not a horror movie.BurningDoom wrote: Why not? If you mean things like Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, My Bloody Valentine, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Friday The 13th, Scream. They are indeed not my favorites...noiseredux wrote:It looks like you don't place slashers too high? That's easily my favorite sub-genre.
Some I do like are Candyman, Final Destination, Hatchet, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho...
And the Rob Zombie Halloween remakes aren't bad either...

Airplaine is obviously a comedy, come on Luke, do better than that. And it doesn't have monstrous, human-eating Aliens in it.Luke wrote:Nerp. But Aliens is more of action movie than Alien or Alien 3. Alien & Alien 3 had much more claustrophobic moments and running scared for their lives from the Aliens moments. And there wasn't a bunch of bad-ass marines around with big guns.
