I remember getting TechTV/G4 when i was still in high school. Parents had just switched us over to dish network and that channel was part of the package. It was so awesome, the first thing I saw on it was a documentary on the Dreamcast.

I remember the first things that really set a death call for the network.
1. When they canceled The Screensavers and made it Attack of the Show.
2. When they started that stupid as hell "The Whip Set" show block with the ad featuring a girl shaking her ass next to a car.

I stopped caring about the network pretty much after that. But I miss having shows like: Cinematech, Icons, Game Makers, Portal, Judgement Day, Pulse, and Arena to have on. Even if some of those werent very good, for someone who was into video games it was the perfect background noise.
Boy I tell you what, are those some god dang video games?

The network died a long time ago but the nail in the coffin was when Adam Sessler left X-Play.

Yeah, he was the only one on that show with any class. I didn't like him at first because of the whiney kind of persona he had, but his Sessler's Soapbox showed how on the ball he really was.

Yeah I hated that persona, but that's literally what it was. He was playing a character. The 'real' Adam Sessler was way more entertaining. I dont know if they're out there but maybe youtube has some clips from when it was GameSpot TV, or the early version of Extended Play. He was WAY calmer and less ADD-ridden than he was on XPlay.

All credits to the internetz folks. It is sad to see the last VG show on tv to be cancelled but gamers can get all the videos and reviews off the net. It was just inevitable, doesn't mean it isn't sad :(

P.S. do you guys thing they will continue covering E3 and Comicon in the future?

I agree with the appreciation of Sessler in the early days, particularly because the show wasn't about the host then, and he knew it. He would just talk games, enthusiastically, without the dumb jokes. Morgan Webb was eye candy at best, and as she became more famous, I noticed a steady improvement in her makeup and dress vs. A steady decline in Sessler's scripted comments and image.

I am not surprised that G4 went the way of SyFy, which was once a network I appreciated but is now generally garbage that I cannot stand.

For sure. I think enough has been said about G4 now. But how I miss the "Sci-Fi Channel". Great original shows like Farscape, Sliders, and the various Stargate series; as well as a great line-up of old favorites like the various Star Trek series, Quantum Leap, and Twilight Zone amongst others.

I'd also add MTV and VH1 to those channels in my book. I used to love the Classic Metal Show, Behind the Music, and Pop-Up Video on VH1. And MTV had Headbanger's Ball, and just the steady stream of music videos. Now there isn't a damn thing music on either channel.

Hell even Lexx was awesome compared to what SyFy's put out for years now.
