I don't know that I'd concur that those are 2 notable gaming sites, but if this made them to consider the goings on in their own house than at least some good comes out of it. Respectfully disagreeing is fine, but I still don't think I've seen from you or anyone else much in the way of support to condemn much/most of gaming journalism as corrupt. In fact, any "corruption" is likely very isolated and, given the over-zealousness of online gamer communities, readily discovered and pointed out when even a hint of it DOES exist.

I don't think it's corrupt at all. Rather I see it as not able to lack bias and objectivity. The standard should be the journalist should be able to make as unbiased decision as possible on the merits of a game without pockets being lined. Unabashed swag, handouts, make this look conspicuous to those that are reading these reviews. We know they're being influenced. I know it's a hobby, but when lobbyists and interest groups schmooze with politicians, is there any industry where there isn't any catering?

IGN being an example. Skyward Sword was hardly a 10. Given it was a Zelda Game, but in no way was it as good as LttP or Ocarina of Time. Hell, it wasn't as good as Wind Waker. Why did it get a 10?

That's more a problem with the arbitrary number system. In general scores have gone up, compared to the bygone days of the only reviews being in print magazines.

That's why I use Destructoid for reviews, they actually use the full scale *and* only use 9+ sparingly. Their average is 5, not 8.
