I do this some times for systems if the games are cheap enough, mainly so if I ever do get the system I can use the game to test it or sell it.
I had quite a few master system games before I ever got a system, same for the Atari 7800.
Newer systems... not so much.
Do you have the habit of buying games first before console?

Ah, damn. I forgot about the Master System games. I have a couple of those too. They came with the Game Gear set, but I don't have a Master System to play them on. Yet another thing to keep an eye out forMechblue wrote:I had quite a few master system games before I ever got a system, same for the Atari 7800.

I recently did this for the first time. I pre-ordered Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward for 3DS so I could get the cool bonus bracelet (that will go well with my bracelet/watch from 999). I don't have a 3DS and have no idea when I'll be getting one! SOMEDAY.
Other than that, the closest I've come is buying 3D glasses for Sega Master System even though I don't have a TV that will work correctly with them. (Although this was more of a mistake than anything intentional.)
[EDIT: VIRTUE'S last reward.)

You are lucky buddy. I missed it when they had it for 999 and also for Zero Escape, which I just preordered today.Nemoide wrote:I recently did this for the first time. I buy systems even if I have no intention of getting games for them for quite some time. Just depends on the price I can snag them for.

First game I ever did this for was the Xbox 360 and the game was the Deathsmiles LE.. Oddly enough I have two copies now.. One sealed and one that I actually play.. I'm tempted to buy Code of Princess and wait for a 3DS XL on craigslist, but you don't seen them anywhere in Michigan CL..

I've only done this for one game and that was Shenmue, as I got it for my birthday in early December, and got the Dreamcast for Christmas. Reading the manual in anticipation for two weeks was great! Must have spent the rest of the winter playing that game.
Currently playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Only did it once. I bought Sonic Adventure and a VMU before I bought the DC. Never again; it was pure torture.

I wouldn't say it's a habbit, but I've done it a few times.
I bought Megaman Powered Up thinking that having the game would make me more inclined to swallow the launch buying price of the PSP 1000. At the time I was thinking that the PSP was probably dud - A few good games but that's it. Since then I've owned 7 different units.
I bought a PS3 Sixaxis controller almost a year before I had the console meaning to interface it with my computer. I eventually bought a few killer titles at pawn shops knowing they were worth more than the $10 asking price - being in pristene condition and all.
Since I've joined Racketboy I feel that I've got a much greater grasp on what's happening with the gaming industry and tend to make the right buys on any gaming media that crosses my path. I just wish that there were more gullible videogame stores here in the north. The Pawn-shop scene has gotten stale - boxes full of sports games and crappy 3rd party controllers.
