I voted donate/purchase. I'll be donating something, it just depends. I think I'll come out of retirement (lol) to make one reproduction cart, with the special edition label again, if I can. I mean, I would like to, as that's the best I can do to raise the most money, but I might not have the time. Moreover, I don't make repros anymore, for many reasons, and haven't made any since last year's charity. It's been a while, so I'm out of the swing of it. If I don't end up making one, I will at least try to donate something worthwhile.

As for purchasing... well that depends on what's in the auction! I'll most likely be purchasing, there has been some neat stuff in the past years.

Question... Will the auction be held on an auction site like it was last year? Or too soon to know?

And also, I agree with what Dsh said about what charity to donate to. I don't have any specific recommendations, but I'll go along with whatever the majority wants.

I'm all the way behind a charity that aids war veterans. I know quite a few closely and their post term packages are just wrong for the services they provide!

I'd support a Wounded Warrior (or similar) charity, but I know where Flake is coming from.

I'd also fully support sponsoring a single family, if it were a case where Luke, or someone else local could present a check, either directly, or through a known entity (church, foundation, etc). The idea being this $2,000 (or whatever the check is for) is meant for this particular thing (heat, food, rent) over the next 12 months, something to make one family know their next year will be made a bit easier each month. I'm sure one of us knows a local family whom could greatly benefit from this and could vouch that the money would be of great import and use (and not spent on lotto tickets and booze).

Also, a slight bit off-topic - I was probably in the minority, but the link-up w/gamegavel was not my thing. My preference would be that it remained fully on racket this year.

FWIW, I plan to donate items and bid on items as well, provided jmbarnes101 has a mystery box.

What I'm hearing from the majority of members is that they'd like to make a bigger impact on one family, or possibly one person than they would donate an amount to a larger foundation that already receives millions in donations.

I'm on the lookout for a cause where we can make a substantial financial impact and at the same time promote RacketBoy and its members.

I was thinking of a charity idea last night what about donateing to a childrens burn unit. There was a story on tv last night about a little boy in wisconson who had recently been trapped in a car fire and been burned very badly who was now going to need 2 prostetic ears. Or maybe we could find a elderly person to help out.

The voice of the RB Community so far has said to help a family or child in need. A few of us are looking at local charities that do exactly that. Please provide information on any charity you would like us to sponsor.

And a small piece of advice. Refer to "the elderly" as "our elders" when in their presence. "Elderly" reminds us of age, weakness, frailness, and sickness. "Elder" reminds us of wisdom, courage, respect, and longevity. As someone who has worked with Assisted Living centers, I can say without a doubt using "elder" instead of "elderly" means a lot to the old fogies.

May I suggest the NorthEast Georgia Sexual Assault Center? I did some volunteer work with them a few years back and they support most of Georgia north of Atlanta, and at times had to limit their emergency call center hours due to lack of funds. I know they would greatly appreciate our support.
