Re: Doom HD Re-release
For some reason the deal isn't showing up for me on Steam, but if it's still 20 bucks, i'll pass. I got the Id mega pack during the summer sale this year, so I have all the Doom games already (plus all the Quake games, Commander Keen, Wolfenstein games, and Rage) so the inclusion of the original Dooms 1 and 2 doesn't do it for me.MrPopo wrote:$10 off, so $20 is the final price.
Unless it is a really substantial upgrade, then I'll consider it.

Yeah, I got the Doom mega pack years ago and I don't care for Doom 3 enough to want it IN HD!!!1 Even with the duct tape mod the game just isn't terribly compelling to me.Betamax001 wrote:For some reason the deal isn't showing up for me on Steam, but if it's still 20 bucks, i'll pass. I think this is a test to see a reaction and if so possibility to getting Doom 4 made. I think $40 is not a bad deal you get everything on 1 disc plus the whole new levels that never came out before.

Re: Doom HD Re-release
I've been playing through it today. Graphically, it looks pretty much the same as the 2004 edition, except widescreen of course. The flashlight mod is nice, but it's been such a standard feature for so long in so many games that after you've used it once or twice you forget it was ever not there. The framerate issues some have been having haven't been a problem for me, but I have been seeing an on-and-off-again vsync problems, even with the synchronize frames option set to "on."
I'd say this is a good value for someone who doesn't still own Doom 3 on PC, but if you have your original copy - especially if you have the first two games and the expansion pack as well - you should probably skip.

I know, but I think this release will gauge the intrest in the Doom franchise (as far as the new generation is concerned).

I haven't beaten any Doom games. 30 Dollars works out for me.

By releasing a game that isn't true to that franchise?TEKTORO wrote:I know, but I think this release will gauge the intrest in the Doom franchise (as far as the new generation is concerned).

I'm really glad most developers never opted for the id Tech 4 engine. That said, I would have preferred Borderlands 2 had had the look and feel of id Tech 5.
