Hobie,
Thanks for the tip, I had heard that before, but completely forgot about it. I'll have to see what I can do about editing the photo.
Ryan,
I can't think of the name of it, but that's a nice Benchmade you have there.

Keys, wallet, mobile phone.
Re: EDC, or what's in your pockets?
Wallet and keys, of course. Phone too.
As for actual EDC, either a Spyderco Tenacious plain edge (great knife for the price) or a Benchmade Griptillian combo edge.

Wallet, phone, and my car key.
One thing I never understood is people carrying a ring with a bazillion keys. At my house, I made it so that all of my external locks operate with a single key.

You could change your locks to consolidate to a single key. Just a matter of bringing the lock & knob to Home Depot and have them change it out. I think it's $5 or $10 per lock. Well worth it.Luke wrote: Key to front and side door

I don't see the need to always carry this. Why not put on a wall in the garage or next to the cellar door?Luke wrote: Key to my shed
Don't see the need to always carry these. I would put them somewhere in my car.Luke wrote: Key to my Parent's front door

Again, I would only have the key for the car that I'm driving.Luke wrote: Wife's car key
So personally I would have winnowed the list down to:
My Car key
Key to office building
Key to my office
Since I always enter the house through the garage, I don't feel the need to carry the house key. Worse case, I find the hidden house key that we stashed somewhere on our property. For my office, we use a thin electronic card that I have in the wallet. I just need to wave the wallet outside the door sensor.

Negative. No way am I changing the schlage locks I currently have. Spent a pretty penny on them, keeping them. Also I lock the entrance to the third floor every night, so I need the gameroom key on my person.gtmtnbiker wrote:

Why? Because people who enter through the garage and have all their keys accessible to anyone aren't thinking about security. Breaking into a garage is simple as pie, and usually how burglars enter your house. That's literally giving the thieves the keys to your home. It's also how one of my neighbors was murdered. Thief entered through the garage, opened the door where the keys were there waiting for them.
I use my shed on a daily basis, and again, I'm not foolish enough to leave keys where anyone could get to them.
See, thinking forward, if my wife has an issue with her car key, I don't have to drive home to find it and again for security reasons we don't keep keys where anyone could get them. Plus I also drive my wife's car.
I travel a lot, so knowing I can always stay with the inlaws or my parents makes it worth keeping the keys on the key chain.
Plus taking keys off and on and off and on is a pain. That and loose keys are always the ones that get lost. And I feel fine with saying that not keeping your house key on you and leaving it in the garage is just plain dumb. Sure, you might not get broken into, but you sure as hell are making it easier for the criminals.

Just so you know, you're just changing the cylinder inside the lock. Otherwise, you're keeping the same Schlage, Baldwin, or whatever lock you're using.Luke wrote: Negative. No way am I changing the schlage locks I currently have. Spent a pretty penny on them, keeping them.
Get a better garage door. My door does not have any windows or external locks. You would have to physically break the door. Might as well do the same to a door/window.Luke wrote: Breaking into a garage is simple as pie, and usually how burglars enter your house.

I'm not sure what the big deal with having the shed key inside the house. I mean, are you worried about a friend/relative being inside the house and then getting access to your shed? If it's a thief, I would think there's more interesting stuff to steal inside the house than a shed unless you're Tony Soprano stashing money inside his bird seed.Luke wrote: I use my shed on a daily basis, and again, I'm not foolish enough to leave keys where anyone could get to them.
Agreed.Luke wrote: Plus taking keys off and on and off and on is a pain. That and loose keys are always the ones that get lost.
I don't have the house key in the garage. My house door in the garage is unlocked though. Again, I have good garage doors.Luke wrote: And I feel fine with saying that not keeping your house key on you and leaving it in the garage is just plain dumb.
