What is your favorite rpg series?
Shin Megami Tensei.
Enjoyable turn-based strategy battles interspersed through compelling stories.
Aside from Persona 3, the battles can get quite difficult. In most turn-based strategy titles, you only have to worry about dying from boss battles. In the SMT series, even many low-level enemies have the ability to pull off instant kills. I beat a boss in FES, with relative ease, only to stomp off into the next dungeon and get my ass handed to me on the first fight...
Oh, plus actual role-playing. Most JRPGs forget about that part.

I hate to say it, but Final Fantasy is the only series in which I've played more than one or two installments.
I loved the first Wild ARMS, but never played any of the others.
Star Ocean: The Second Story kicked ass, but it's the only one of that series I've experienced.
I enjoyed Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and other games with Infinity engine back in the day, but these games today are incredibly slow and mind-numbing to me today.
Dragon Quest never really sparked my interest - mostly because the first Dragon "Warrior" on the NES tested my patience and pissed on it before lighting it on fire and stomping it out. Maybe I need to give the other games a shot, but I simply don't have the time to drop 100+ hours into a single game.
There are many others I've played, but this is just to give you an idea... Now that I'm all growed up, I really don't have much time to invest in RPGs. I still love them. I usually have to lock onto one RPG at a time and play it over the course of a few months to really get anything out of it.

This is a difficult question because I really haven't become invested in any series in particular. I'd say the Shining series but I haven't spent enough time with 1 and 2 to really warrant that claim. The 3 "series" is definitely up there for my favorites though. I've also played through STHA and some of the spin offs like Shining Soul and enjoyed them all, but that really doesn't count as a series. Still, I'll narrow it down to the Shining Force 3 "series" for my answer.
Re: What is your favorite rpg series?
not sure if this is the popular one but for me it would have to be seiken densetsu.
Terrible story, wonderful gameplay.

Hatta wrote:Quest for Glory. It's the perfect synthesis of RPG character building and Adventure story telling. You really get to solve puzzles in entirely different ways depending on how you build your character. They do a very good job of making you feel like the Hero, instead of just playing through someone else like most RPGs. The game has a great sense of humor too.
It's fun enough, that I've played through all 5 games with all the character classes. Anyone who hasn't tried out this classic series would do well to seek them out.
Whoa, whoa, whoa...How did I miss this. Finally someone else who loves QFG. I didn't name this series b/c I think of it as falling within the adventure genre, but you are absolutely correct on all points. The QFG series absolutely captivated me. The atmosphere it creates is just simply amazing and the RPG elements are really quite good.
Which is your favorite? Though QFG diehards may lambast me for my odd taste in the series, my favorite is QFG 3, just edging out the original (VGA remake). Did you know there is a fan initiative to remake 2 in VGA? Also, I need to invest more time in the 5th one. It had a great atmosphere but was sufficiently different that I didn't embrace it as I perhaps should have.
