I need more GB and GBC games!

Post by BoneSnapDeez »

I've been collecting for about 2 years. I've managed to nab lots of DS/GBA stuff (as it's easiest to find), but I've been neglecting the Game Boy and Game Boy Color. I've bought a few titles here and there, but most of what I have are leftovers from when I was a kid. Here's what I got:

Game Boy:
Alleyway
Bases Loaded
Battle Arena Toshinden
Donkey Kong
Final Fantasy Adventure
Final Fantasy Legend
Final Fantasy Legend II
Final Fantasy Legend III
Kirby's Dream Land
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Lemmings
Mega Man II
Mega Man III
Nemesis
Operation C
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Tetris
Ultima: Runes of Virtue
Yoshi's Cookie
Game Boy Color:
Crystalis
Donkey Kong Country
Dragon Warrior I & II
Dragon Warrior III
Hamtaro: Ham Hams Unite!
International Track & Field
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Lufia: The Legend Returns
R-Type DX
Yars' Revenge
What are some must-have games I'm missing? I'm thinking of picking up the other Zelda GBC game, Magi Nation, and Revelations: The Demon Slayer. Beyond that I'm clueless. I'm mainly into JRPGs, platformers, shmups, and classic sports games (Tecmo/Konami stuff). Seems like I can find GB/GBC stuff real cheap these days, so now seems like the time to buy!

You definitely need the other two GBC Zeldas.

No Wario Land series? You gotta get those.

Shantae is basically a Simon's Quest style platformer actually done well. Very nice animation and music.

IDK I think Noise might be able to help a little more than me.

The Pokemon games are very good. They get marketed as kid's stuff, but there's some pretty deep strategies in those games. I recommend Pokemon Crystal if you only get one of the six on the GB and GBC.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

This. Maybe truer words have been uttered but I doubt it. The Wario Land series pushed the Gameboy way beyond what it was supposed to be able to do. It makes most other Gameboy games look weak and paltry.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

probably could as I've played hundreds of GB/GBC games, but I hate just naming "good" games. Gimme some criteria, yo.

Games that make buying a Konami Hyperboy worthwhile.

My suggestions:

Game Boy:
-Bionic Commando
-Donkey Kong Land (Only the original, from my understanding it's the only completely new game, the other 2 are ports of DKC 2 & 3, which have better portable versions on GBA)
-Double Dragon 1 & 2
-Gradius: Intestellar Assault
-Mega Man: Dr. Wiley's Revenge
-Metroid II: The Return of Samus
-Ninja Gaiden: Shadow
-Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land

Game Boy Color:
-Bionic Commando: Elite Force
-Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
-Super Mario Bros. Deluxe

ironic, since I got rid of my Hyperboy after 2 years of collecting dust last week. But there's plenty of great GB/GBC games. Just need some criteria to go by. I'm not a fan of generic "best of" lists.

Try to get Japanese copies of Rockman World 4 and 5 if you like the Mega Man games. They're two of the best in the entire series, not just on the Game Boy. They're a lot cheaper than getting the Mega Man versions and there's not really a language barrier.
