Must-play SMS & Game Gear games

Post by solidunit »

Anyone wanna enlighten me on the best SMS games to play? I downloaded a pretty sweet SMS emulator for my PSP and I wanna see what I missed out on in my childhood (I was exclusively NES nurtured growing up).

I vote for this. Did the SMS have anything besides inferior versions to popular Genesis titles, and TV versions of Game Gear titles?

Actually, add Game Gear games to the list. Most SMS emu's play GG titles too. The GG had a pretty big library in comparison to the SMS, right? There's gotta be some under appreciated gems in there

1.Double Dragon seems thats the closest port of the arcade verison for a 8-bit system
2.Alex Kid in wonderland. Sega´s answer to mario before Sonic
3.Sonic 1 and 2 not bad on the sms but for some reason you cant pick up rings after you get hit
4.Phantasy Star no need to explain that one :D

1. Wonderboy III
2. Wonderboy IV
3. Wonderboy II
4. Phantasy Star
5. Golden Axe Warrior (zelda clone, but good)
6. Alex Kidd in Miracle World
7. Zillion I and II
8. Golvellius
9. Psycho Fox
10. Shinobi
* The 3D games were pretty awesome but will probably suck on emulator because the required electronic 3D glasses set.

SMS - Phantasy Star and, um, Phantasy Star. Did I mention Phantasy Star?

GG -
Arena: Maze of Death (ambitious isometric shooter)
Big Hurt Baseball (better than 16-bit version IMO)
Chuck Rock 2
Crystal Warriors (tough strategy rpg)
Defenders of Oasis
Ristar
Royal Stone (jp, nice graphics, strategy rpg)
Shining Force series
Solitaire Poker
Sonic
Super Off Road
Slider (cute arcade title)
Tail's Adventure (very nice platformer)
Woody Pop

A lot of other good GG ports (Codemasters' games, EA's FIFA, Earthworm Jim, etc.). Not sure how well GG games play in emulators ... tried it once on computer, wasn't impressed ... PSP might do better job recreating the small screen experience.

Good entry on SMS on the main page.

Racket, do clean up the repetition on Phantasy Star though!
