The recent COD games are all pretty solid FPS games in my experience. For what they try to do - provide a modern or historical warfare-based FPS that emphasizes multiplayer yet contains a solid single player mode - they do it really well...

Want a historical shooter? Buy DOD:S or Red Orchestra 2. Atleast they're historically accurate. Want a modern shooter? Go for ARMA 2 or America's Army (it's free). Generally speaking fan made mods tend to be better than actual commercial games as far as modern shooters go.
As a realistic FPS/war simulator, COD fails. As a fast paced and unrealistic deathmatch FPS, COD fails.

Hmm. It got a near perfect score from Famitsu and Bloody Disgusting, so I'm still hopeful.

The fact the a Japanese game gets a good score from Famitsu doesn't really tell anything about it's quality. Remember their "best games of all time" list a few years back?

Famitsu are always good for a laugh. Jim Sterling rated 6 a 3/10. Good for him, sometimes he tries to be controversial with his numbers. Going against the flow for the sake of it can prove trite.

Unless BLOPS2 is a major improvement I do hope that a few sites grow some cojones and review this year's COD outing based on merits alone. That would be awesome.

Also, as you all know I don't put much stock into scores. But to me, a 4.5/10 or 5/10 is like saying "average game." And a 6/10 and 79/100 is like saying "above average game." So I'm not sure I'd consider it a shit-storm.

Same here. Plus, it haves the same score as Splatterhouse and Hell Yeah! so I'll probably love it

edit: and, honestly, why do numbers matter at all? I hate having a score on reviews. I wish reviewers would review the game and state whether or not you should buy the game, rent it, or not play it at all.

Exactly, I've loved many games that have been bashed beyond belief (Inlcuding stuff like Bullet Witch, Bloodforge, Blue Dragon, Rise Of Nightmares, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, Time Crisis: Razing Storm, Final Fantasy XIII, Ar Tonelico Qoga, etc.). Reviews are just opinions that have more value than they should have. Hell, I should hate Caligula just because everyone says "It sucks".

MW3 is the weakest COD game this generation IMO. It isn't bad though, and I (like many others) don't really care much about perks/online play. I think that the story told across MW1-2-3 holds up pretty well as a standalone/longer FPS campaign, for example. They also look great, control well, etc.

Anyway, why does it give you such joy to see RE6 get mediocre scores? Posting a thread about it and ragging on "teh fanbois" about their reaction puts you in exactly the same category as those you find so humorous/irritating...

I honestly thought MW2 was worse but it's still pretty good. And yes, he is more irritating than the "fanbois" that he mentioned. Nowadays gaming has become: "EA, ACTIVISION, CAPCOM AND ANYTHING POPULAR THAT SELLS A LOT IS AWFUL. CLASSIC GAMING FTW SINCE IT'S FLAWLESS"
