Just want to point out that it's not a partisan deal either. The entire system is screwed up and there's no simple fix for it.
I don't think that cutting funding can help at all though, and it still drives me nuts when education funding is inevitably the first thing to go when there's money issues.

True. We also tend to rely heavily on standardized testing, which forces our teachers to stick to a test-based curriculum instead of actually teaching our students to appreciate learning. And experimentation in new types of schooling would at least be beneficial in determining if something might work. There is a public high school in Arkansas which has gone to an academy system, and they are apparently getting great results, including a graduation rate of over 90%, with their students earning an average of 11% more money when compared to those from other schools...at least, according to their statistics.

........get ready to be Greece in 10-20 years. The fact that the 2 mainstream parties weren't willing to compromise and hurt the interests of their loyal voter base are the main reasons we are in this mess.
And I think it will be even worse in America where your 2 party system fucks up any chance for real change through a 3rd contender.

I've considered where I'm going to go after college. I don't want to live in this country anymore really. I do, but I don't. I just fear for what's ahead.

The Illinois government is a complete disaster fiscally (and in general to a lesser extent). The state isn't paying its bills. Schools aren't getting promised money, medical programs aren't being promptly funded and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Oh yeah, and two of our ex-governors are convicted felons.

I remember watching steven colbert show segment about california being debt free while other states are in debt within the million. I do think in the state of New Hampshire don't pay taxes, i don't know what exactly. Down with TSA, corrupted.

It's more than two. Actually I believe it's something like four of the last seven governors Illinois has had have ended up doing time.DinnerX wrote:The Illinois government is a complete disaster fiscally (and in general to a lesser extent). You're right. I was just thinking of the most recent two who are still in prison.Ack wrote:It's more than two.
