I said don't get me started, but yea in the past 10 years here we've put up 2 stadiums and are about to do a third for the Vikings. The Vikings one really has me upset because it's going to be a billion plus stadium for football. That means 8 days out of the year this building will be getting used. It's absolutely retarded I think to waste that kind of money on something that will be used for 8 days out of the year.AppleQueso wrote:If it's funded on the city level, sometimes it can boost tourism dollars a bit. I think the mentality behind stadiums is that they are supposed to be also used as sports centers so people can work out and stay healthy.

Most countries include tax in the price of whatever you're buying.
Man, American tax laws are such a freaking pain in the ass.
Especially for the math-challenged.

My city can top er bottom this. This after millions spent on renovating the stadium with more seats. You know how the NFL will black out a local broadcast for a home game that is not sold out? The Chargers negotiated a ticket guarantee where the city would GIVE them money for any unsold seats. The game was still blacked out! Thankfully after years of that crap the city wised up and no longer donates money to the team.flex wood wrote:I said don't get me started, but yea in the past 10 years here we've put up 2 stadiums and are about to do a third for the Vikings. At least the stadium WAS duel purposed as a football and baseball stadium to get extra use out of it. That is until the Padres snuck in a new stadium, mostly with tax payer funding. Stupid location back downtown, the old stadium many decades ago was removed because of crowding. There is no room for tailgating let alone parking. Now the seat guarantee Chargers are crying penalty and want a new stadium also. In both cases a private billionaire owned company, the city should not have to hand out tax payer money to them.

I'm glad I don't live in a city big enough to need to build stadiums solely for local teams.
We've got a stadium but it's just where all the local high school and college football games are played.

Most stadiums are used many times throughout the year for other events. As terrible as this sounds, the Georgia Dome has a Monster Truck Rally every year there (the commercial beckons me to say: "Super Value Seats are still just $10").flex wood wrote:It's absolutely retarded I think to waste that kind of money on something that will be used for 8 days out of the year.

With all the fights about tax raises and deficit cutting on health care education and the army, I'd have thought you guys would have gotten rid of such expenditures first.

Any time there's budget issues, the first things on the chopping block are education, police, and infrastructure.ZeroAX wrote:![]()
