I remember buying video games as a young kid and you think the game cost $49.99, but you find out you have to pay the tax. Which feels like hidden lie/fee. You find yourself short of cash to pay full price amount. Even when you buy a video game system you have to pay the tax. Have you guys ever found loop holes to this? I on the other hand I have stop buying games from evil gamestop and other retail stores. Instead I chose online sites like ebay or amazon. I also hate as ebay seller there some little hidden fees that you end up finding out at very end.
Whats your view on taxes when buying games or consoles at retail stores? Are there any states don't pay taxes on video games or a particular day? When your a little kid you don't know much about sales tax. I'm not saying taxes are evil, but the tax feels like it goes to gamestop (there used game loop). Why put sales tax on used games, is little strange (the money doesn't go to the publisher/developer)?

Taxes are a necessary evil. Even if you are a government hater, taxes pay for roads, fire, police, and the like. Even if you live somewhere without sales tax, there are property taxes and such.

They have normal sales taxes now, which we should be thankful for. Some people out there believe we should have full blown sin tax on them...

You used subsidized power to light up your house and turn on your game consoles. On your way to the store to buy that taxed game, you used roads and infrastructure that was put together and maintained by sales taxes. When you parked your car you were reasonably assured it wouldn't be stolen because of the presence of tax funded police officers in the area and if it suddenly burst into flames, the tax funded fire department would be there to put it out. Taxes are awesome when they are spent on that kind of stuff.Dib wrote:Whats your view on taxes when buying games or consoles at retail stores? There are only three things you can count on in this life: Death, taxes, and the increasing mediocrity of the Final Fantasy franchise.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

lol @ a tax as a "hidden lie/fee" and double lol @ "feels like tax goes to 'evil gamestop"" on a used game.
you seem peeved, yet I'd heard that ignorance is bliss...no?

I hate it when I go to buy a chicken sandwich and I'm short seven cents every time!

I live in Oregon, the land of no sales tax (or toll roads) but it pisses me off every time I go to Washington.
However, if it were something I've lived with for a long time, I wouldn't be surprised by it, I don't think. And it is indeed a necessary thing ... it'd be nice if states properly balanced budgets in such a way that some taxes could be temporary like they're initially claimed to be.

What I'm basically trying to say is when your a young kid trying to buy game at $49.99 plus tax, you don't realize about the tax to pay the full amount. As a kid you rather see the total price of the game at $55.00 instead of $49.99+plus tax before paying. Sort of like in Japan tipping is frown upon because it is already included. While in the US you got to tip or else.

Lol, hard to feel bad for a kid being disappointed that something costs a couple bucks more than they thought it would. I want to take this kid aside and explain that this is just the first in a series of many disappointments. Welcome to the world, kid.

How old are you? I'm just wondering, I've understood this since I had to buy my own video games, or anything for myself for that matter. (Since I was about 6 or so.)
Also, I think it speaks a certain amount to the morals of people if someone won't tip/someone doubts other people will be good enough to give a tip.
