I bet it will take them at least another three years before they finish it.MrPopo wrote:They are planning on finishing it. I think the thing is that no one likes Xen in the original HL and they're planning on it being a full reimagining, and that most people won't mind being able to play through all the good parts of the original in the initial release.
What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis? It's the coolest, most unique thing in the whole game. Exactly that kind of stuff is what's missing from modern shooters.MrPopo wrote:They are planning on finishing it. Well ok, inside of the "factory" was dull, but visually it was an amazing place. And the last boss was really something too. I didn't play the game for the first time (from start to finish, that is) untill like 2011 and I was still amazed by that part.
The part where you crawl out of a drainage pipe and you can see the whole desert view opening before your eyes while the fighter plane flies in front of you was really amazing too.

Arguably, isn't Xen pretty much the same as when mutants overrun you in Far Cry, or the alien to human ratio starts to skew in Crysis, or when non/sub-humans start showing up in droves in every Uncharted game?Menegrothx wrote: What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis? What I don't like about Half-Life when it starts to get more Xen-ish is that it basically goes back in time. A lot of the cool new AI, mechanics, and so on pretty much goes out the window for the last chunk of the game. Just turns into pumping bullets into hordes of enemies, like nearly every shooter before it.
At least, as I recall it. Haven't played through the original since it was a new release.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Precisely. The entire gameplay shifts. Now you have shitty platforming and you lose the most interesting enemies. And there's a boss monster which is solely a bullet sponge, which didn't appear anywhere else in the game. Everything that made the parts up to Xen awesome gets thrown out the window.

Yeah, that was my biggest issue in FC too, the game was freaking amazing at first, and it looked great, but then you got into that mutant part of the story and that was all there wasisiolia wrote:when mutants overrun you in Far Cry

The less said about the last 8-9 levels of the game... the better.ExedExes wrote:Yeah, that was my biggest issue in FC too, the game was freaking amazing at first, and it looked great, but then you got into that mutant part of the story and that was all there wasisiolia wrote:when mutants overrun you in Far Cry

Completed another level in MOH-RS today. One thing aside from some of the flaws of the game, the locations are still pretty jaw dropping. Today I was in this huge temple and the outside of it was HUGE, and even the interior had many statues and lots of opportunities for head shots

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Crysis had that problem too... the aliens come in and the game just turns into garbage, phew was it frustrating and lame. Crysis 2 got a little old after awhile too, same three alien enemy types for the entire game.
Xen is just awful, lol. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it in Black Mesa, but when I heard it wasn't finished in the first release I didn't care at all.

That's just not fair. It's a mod (a free one that you pay nothing for and enjoy for free). Cut them some slack. It's a miracle that anything saw the light of day. It's downright divine that the game is so good so far.Xeogred wrote:Xen is just awful, lol.
