There's scenery like that in Las Vegas? I thought the area was mostly a flat desert. Is that area close to Grand Canyon or something?

This is true. People are becoming more and more urbanized. Because most people want to live close to services, they live so far away from wilderness/semi-wilderness that if they want to truly spend time outdoors, they'll have to reserve a whole day for that, so most people are too busy and/or tired to do that more than a few times a year.

I wish I was living "in the middle of nowhere", I know I'm such a lazy spineless person that I wont go outside if it takes too much time and effort, but I very often yearn the feeling of being alone in nature.

Go about 5 miles north of Las Vegas, then you about 20 miles west. It's beautiful out there.

How old are your kids?

My kids are becoming the same way and it's sad. We make a point to get them outside everyday the weather isn't a problem.

Sometimes they are resistant, but without fail, anytime we get them outside, they have fun and find things to do.
They're 12 & 9. I shouldn't have to twist their arms to be outside. I think if they were with their friends, they wouldn't mind it as much but we don't have any kids their age in our neighborhood.
Yeah, that's part of it, there are only (2) other kids within walking distance of us, and they are 16 and 18 yo boys...so not an option of course.

Looks like a great time dooder.

On the subject of going outside, I've always been bad about that. I don't live close to anybody, and even when I do go places, most stuff that constitutes running (IE, most sports) really kicks up my asthma. So, I really had to sit out pretty soon after most of the guys would start playing. Plus, I'm slow as crap. Stuff like Gaga ball, hiking, trampoline, riding horses, etc. are fine, and I'm trying to get out and do them more.
