Hey, Pailhead is good stuff. Yes that has a super long intro. I just tossed it up there for that line.MrPopo wrote:Come on, Hobie. There's a much better "the news sucks" song, and it's Dirty Laundry by Mr. Don Henley.
I can't stand the media anymore. Any of it.

The media pisses me off beyond the point of typing a coherent rant about it.

When it comes to the media, I trust somewhat underground websites over TV news and such. One of our local channels is pretty good, but the rest suck. And Yahoo!/MSN/Whatever is just so damn dumb I can't even look at it.
Until people quit caring about what the famous do and actually pay attention to the important stuff, media will be shit.

Media is a business, though, so since people like crap news they get fed crap news.Forlorn Drifter wrote: Until people quit caring about what the famous do and actually pay attention to the important stuff, media will be shit.
I watch a LOT of TV/Cable news and read a lot of news/political websites. Much is crap, but there is often good and useful coverage, even in mainstream news, if you know where to look.

You know the internet is media too right?

I cannot believe the type of shit people read. "KATE IS HAVING A BABY!" I don't know or care who "Kate" is, and I cannot fathom why anyone else would, either. Why does it matter if Brad and Angelina are adopting a kid, or breaking up, or whatever?
WHO THE HELL IS ACTUALLY PAYING TO READ THIS TRASH?
Just walking through the mall is an exercise in insanity, as the billboards and advertising on the stores is unbelievable. You can tell every single human image is photoshopped, and they are all advertising completely useless garbage on which Earth's precious resources should not be wasted.
It's not just advertising or magazines, either. Everything just seems so much more ignorant these days. I have a six-year-old daughter, and I can't believe how stupid kid's books seem these days. I dig out books from when I was a kid, or read older books at the library (circa 1970-1980) and they are filled with proper grammar, complete plots, and meaningful paragraphs. Most of the books I see are so light on actual content, they may as well be picture books.
I won't even get into modern music.

That is definitely not the best Pailhead song, though.Hobie-wan wrote:Hey, Pailhead is good stuff. Yes that has a super long intro. I just tossed it up there for that line.MrPopo wrote:Come on, Hobie. There's a much better "the news sucks" song, and it's Dirty Laundry by Mr. Don Henley.
Media is a business

Actually, I don't even think that would be considered "R" rated seeing as how it's a non-sexual topless scene, but I guess that depends on your place of work. Also, it's kind of nice that she doesn't have the typical super model or pornstar body. Anyway, back on topic..
Like others have said, media outlets are a business, and to succeed they have to remain profitable. The problem is that they have to compete with every other show out there, so they have to find some way to grab people's attention. Take Fox News for example; every damn story they show is accompanied by a "FOX NEWS ALERT!" header. It doesn't matter if it's a bombing in Europe, or an old lady falling down some stairs, they're going to try and grab your attention long enough to get that rating point.
