I love Silent Movie. I honestly think that Spaceballs is one of his weaker movies, but that in no way makes it unfunny. It's hilarious. But I think Blazing Saddles and probably Young Frankenstien (Scaared thaaa hell outta me! - Homer) are definitely his best movies.
Also, The Producers is pretty damn funny too. (I even liked the new version)
What was the last movie you've seen?

I've watched BLAZING SADDLES countless times on tv (hilarious edits), and VHS, and was a little bit worried that seeing it on Blu-Ray but it truly stands up as one of the best comedies filmed.
With our pearl clutching, politically correct* society of today I don't know how BLAZING SADDLES would be received if released today. I'd still laugh my ass off, that's for sure.
*kind of an odd coincidence that "pearl clutching" and "politically correct" both have the abbreviation "pc"

THE PRODUCERS is amazing. Things don't get much funnier than Springtime for Hitler. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN has some of the best one liners ever.
SPACEBALLS is...funny, but a bit dumbed down from Brooks' other films. I still love SPACEBALLS though and I have been known to sing its theme song in the shower from time to time ('cause they're going to steal your ayy-yah).
HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART 1 shouldn't be ignored either. Probably Brooks' quirkiest comedy.

Our second most wanted item on our misc registry for our wedding is this:
(the first being Dragoncon eternals...).
Mel Brooks and I were actually born on the same day (different year obviously), and Ive always had a connection with his works. Get Smart was the first tv show that I really enjoyed and have followed him ever since. Blazing Saddles is quoted daily at my office.
A couple of weeks ago I was talking with Rob Paulson (Yakko Warner and Pinky from Pinky and the Brain) who got to work on Spaceballs and told me a great story about Mr. Brooks that I was thinking about this morning. He said they were trying to figure out a name for the main Dink (the Jawa like characters in Spaceballs) on an open discussion panel. Rob thought he was clever and stated Gunga Dink - after Gunga Din from Rudyard Kiplings poem of the same name. Mel apparently stopped the meeting turned to him and said "Funny is money, wit is shit, who else has an idea"

Paulson was in Spaceballs?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
He was known for saying that and similarly, "Wit is shit, but funny is money". This must have been in his SPACEBALLS days.fastbilly1 wrote:Mel apparently stopped the meeting turned to him and said "Funny is money, wit is shit, who else has an idea"
