Kind of distracted by the password being a Hitchhiker's Guide reference. His complaint about how limited technology was for gaming in years past kind of reminds me of Douglas Adams' complaints about videogames, too.

EDIT: Well, I've signed up and followed on tumblr. The website looks sort of like a website they would make for a Star Trek display at a Museum or something.

I'm a huge Wing Commander fan so I knew this was coming. He's been teasing the fans over at wcnews.com for a while now. He even showed up in person on the chat for the website's annual birthday party this year to answer questions.

I'm really hoping it's a new Wing Commander, or something related. It's literally my favorite video game franchise.

Edit: The people at the wcnews have this piece of concept art Image which leads them to believe it's going to be a Wing Commander Privateer/Freelancer style game.

It probably won't be the WC IP because EA seems to guard their various acquired IPs jealously, rather than let people utilize them for a licensing fee. But a WC-style space shooter would be awesome.

It appears it's going to be an original IP done in the same vein as Privateer yes, view my edit above.

I am excited as fuck.

Edit: The current vote on the website is if players want to be able to see the cockpits or not like we used to in the old space sims. I think it's confirmed what type of game this is going to be.

I would much prever a "Privateer style" game over a Wing Commander one myself, so it is looking good :)

My main concern is that it could easily be an EVE Online sort of thing. I'd really like a single-player game, even if it has a multi-player component. Diablo 2 style would work for me.

Short version of the trailer
By the looks of it, that's what gameplay will look like (and not just the cinematics)
Looks like I've got 2 years time to save enough money for a new PC :)
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

This looks absolutely incredible. Too bad I'll need a new PC before I can even THINK about running it  .

That's Chris Roberts for you though, always pushing technology as far as he can.

I especially like how you can be a carrier pilot like in the old Wing Commander games or you can play it with a more Privateer style.

The style, the ships, the symbols, it's all from Wing Commander. The Squadron 42 trailer and logo stuffed full of references. You can even get some Wing Commander ships for your game by pledging certain denominations of money. Fans are calling it a "spiritual prequel" since he has the rights to and is using some Wing Commander IP but not the title itself. Also the original name for Wing Commander was going to be "Squadron."

You can see some of the Squadron 42 Easter Eggs here.

I am so excited it hurts.
