So I won something on Ebay a while back, paid immediately (the way I always do, with the money coming straight out of my Paypal balance), the seller shipped the item and I have received it.
So what's the problem, you ask? Well, Paypal and Ebay, almost a month later, are still saying "payment pending" under this particular transaction. The seller was/is "new", and on Paypal it says the user is unregistered or whatever. I did contact the seller about this but it was a couple of days after I paid so I haven't spoken with them recently. They just said that Paypal (or Ebay, whichever) is holding the money for a few days because he's new. So I'm wondering if this means the money is still being held, or is it possible that they have the wrong address attached to their Paypal?
I've done a little bit of searching on Google and most of what I find is from the seller's point of view, claiming they've sold an item and so much time passes and the payment still says pending and they think they've been scammed. Everything from the buyer's point of view seems to not really give an info whatsoever except that it's possible that the seller has received the money but Ebay/Paypal haven't updated the status of the payment.
So yeah, sorry for the long post, just trying to give as much info as I can. So does anyone know if this is normal (if the money is still being held, would that show up in my account as pending)? Should I contact the seller again? Just wondering if anyone has any info because it has been bugging me. haha
Ebay/Paypal question
Re: Ebay/Paypal question
It happens. Just take a screenshot of the payment details in paypal for your records and contact the buyer via ebay to confirm they received the payment. If all else fails call paypal.

Re: Ebay/Paypal question
If I'm reading this correctly, I had a similar issue with an eBay seller a couple months ago. I paid with Paypal, and under the "$" symbol you'd usually see under My eBay, it said that the seller hasn't "claimed" the payment. I went to the Help section, and it says that the seller's information didn't match his Paypal account information. The usual cause could be a mis-matched email address. I let the seller know, and he corrected the problem on his end, and was able to claim my payment.harper wrote:So I won something on Ebay a while back, paid immediately (the way I always do, with the money coming straight out of my Paypal balance), the seller shipped the item and I have received it.

If this is something completely different, my apologies. I just remembered it because it was the first time I'd ever have a PayPal payment not get to the seller for some reason.

Yeah that's exactly what's happening. And thanks for the link.ExedExes wrote:If I'm reading this correctly, I had a similar issue with an eBay seller a couple months ago. I've actually had other situations like this happen before. In one case the seller actually did have the wrong email linked and in another case the seller said they would receive an email to confirm the payment. Usually the transfer is instant so when it's not I contact the seller as soon as I notice. I just thought this particular time was kind of weird because it has been so long.
Re: Ebay/Paypal question
Hey Harper,
I had a similar scenario play out from a seller's perspective. Same error happened where the payment was initiated through paypal, etc. A week or so went by and I just contacted the buyer, asked if they had paid, which they stated they had. I explained what I saw on my end. The buyer offered to pay by cashier's check so I agreed with that course of action, and we cancelled the paypal payment.
Worked out okay! Sorry that you're dealing with that though.

Re: Ebay/Paypal question
Any idea what the actual problem was (just out of curiosity)? Only reason I haven't cancelled the payment is because I figure that if ebay holds it from the seller for 21 days then that would just delay it even longer. And I believe I've read that if it goes unclaimed for 30 days it'll automatically be refunded anyway.Blu wrote:Hey Harper,

Re: Ebay/Paypal question
If I can recall correctly, the problem wasn't anything to do with EBay, rather Paypal. The payment was just stalled and in a limbo state. I waited around 2 weeks without resolve, and just stayed in contact with the buyer. I never gave Paypal a call, but perhaps that's the method I would pursue if I could do it again. I was fine with receiving a cashier's check, but if I were to have to issue one, I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to begin.
Please keep me in the loop with what happens, I'm curious!

Re: Ebay/Paypal question
I've sold a couple items on eBay in the past, and I remember the payment from the buyer would be held until a tracking number was provided to PayPal. This may not be the case for your seller but thats what happened to me in the past (payment was cleared after I submitted shipping info).
Re: Ebay/Paypal question
Good luck, Paypal customer service is horrendous.
Re: Ebay/Paypal question
No idea why it took so long but the payment finally says it has gone through. Just an update for anyone who was curious to see how things would turn out. haha
