This could go in a number of threads, but seems like the best fit for this post is right here.

"Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals"- Every coach on the planet.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee reminded of something that for some reason hasn't crossed my mind, and I'm quite embarrassed. I've been neglecting something very fundamental when it comes to criticizing movies.

The brilliant Gene Siskel had a litmus test for movies which isn't only clever, but also insightful. Not sure of the exact wording he used, but to paraphrase "Is the movie as entertaining and clever as a documentary of the lead characters having lunch together?". Sound strange? Watch an episode of Dinner For Five, which Favreau admits he borrowed the idea.

As much as I'd like to share a bowl of Shredded Wheat (the ones the size of throw pillows, not that mini frosted girlie stuff) with Sly, Norris, Arnold, and Bruno, THE EXPENDABLES 2 is a much more delightful and entertaining time.

On the other hand, there are movies such as THE CAMPAIGN. The movie is alright, wasn't great. I would definitely rather watch Zach and Will clown around while eating Southwest Shrimp at their neighborhood Applebee's than watching an hour and a half of Ferrell being unlikeable.

And I've yet to watch an entire TWILIGHT movie, but I believe a recorded lunch with Patterson and Stewart would be a bigger hit with tweens than any of the vampire themed films.

Just food for thought that I think is worth eating.
I have a high suspicion that the sandwich scene in Marvel's The Avengers was a tribute to Siskel

That would be a fun thing to ask Joss.

I have a friend who has been writing for him since the buffy/spike/angel days. I'll ask him to ask Joss re: lunch scene. Don't think it will pan out, but it will interesting to find out.

I started Six Feet Under with my roommate recently- we're almost done with season 1. I've never been hooked on a show so fast. The way it blends tragedy and comedy is totally unique- very powerful, relatable programming. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Absolutely amazing. Many of the characters are developed much more than in the series and the climax is one of (if not) the best looking anime sequences I've ever seen.

Also, the title for the third one is stupid and ironic (You can (not) redo).

If you're going to hotlink an image when talking about a movie, at the very least, write the title somewhere in your post.

There is a scene in season 3, I think, where David and Keith are having a fight in a parking lot about Keith's anger. He references the way Keith uses his automatic car door opener. It is one of the funniest TV moments i've ever seen.

Great show. They ended at the right time, the last season became darker and more repetitive.

I actually like playing "guess the movie".

So far I'm working with:

Amazing
Great Anime Climax
A third installment that has an ironic (probably not ironic but just silly) title

Sounds like some bizarre hentai I'd rather not watch.

Based on the third title I'm going to assume it's one of those recent Evangelion reboot/remake movie things.
