Huh. Weird how I only just found this thread...
Anyways, I'm into a fair variety of metal. My personal favorites are below.

Euro-style Power: Angel Dust, Blind Guardian, Crosswind, Dragonforce, Firewind, Grave Digger, Helloween, Nocturnal Rites, Power Quest, Primal Fear, Pyramaze, Rage.

American-style Power: Agent Steel, Brainstorm, Charred Walls of the Damned, Demons & Wizards, Helstar, Iced Earth, Jag Panzer, Meliah Rage, Metal Church, Seven Kingdoms, Seven Witches, Vicious Rumors.

Thrash: Annihilator, Anthrax, Artillery, Bonded By Blood, Death Angel, Destruction, Evile, Exciter, Exodus, Hallows Eve, Havok, Kreator, Megadeth, Metallica, Overkill, Slayer, Sodom, Space Eater, Tantara, Testament, Warbringer, Whiplash, Witchhammer.

Prog: Avian, Dream Theater, Mastodon, Rainbow.

Doom: Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Cathedral, Electric Wizard, Heaven & Hell, Krux, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Sleepy Hollow, Solitude Aeturnus, The Bronx Casket Co., Type O Negative.

Heavy metal: Accept, Anvil, Benedictum, Blaze Bayley, Dio, Game Over, Holy Grail, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Manowar, Motorhead, Paragon, Pharaoh, Saxon, Twisted Tower Dire, U.D.O., White Wizzard.

Symphonic: After Forever, Avantasia, HolyHell, Kamelot, Nightwish, Rhapsody of Fire, Serenity.

Death: Arch Enemy, Death.

Black: Black Whole, Moonspell, Skeletonwitch, Soulfallen.

The shorter number of black/death metal bands is because I just started really listening to them, while the shorter prog list is because I usually don't have the patience to listen to superlong songs.

Edit: Also, I want to start a band, but I don't actually know anyone that plays an instrument. Damn you philly! You and your metal-hating ways...

HOpe you can make it

Are you referring to Pryapism? https://www.facebook.com/pryapism

I saw a pretty good amount of bands this summer, from a variety of subgenres. Here's a list:
Scream It Like You Mean It! - July 8, 2012
Attack Attack!
We Came As Romans
Abandon All Ships
Like Moths to Flames
Close to Home
Secrets
Glass Cloud
At The Skylines

Rockstar Mayhem Festival -July 31, 2012
Slipknot
Slayer
Motorhead
Asking Alexandria
Anthrax
Upon A Burning Body
As I Lay Dying
Dirtfedd
The Devil Wears Prada
Whitechapel
Stemm

The Summer Slaughter Tour- August 9, 2012
Cannibal Corpse
Between The Buried And Me
The Faceless
Periphery
Veil of Maya
Job For A Cowboy
Goatwhore
Exhumed
The Contortionist
Cerebral Bore
The March To Victory

Attack Attack! has REALLY stepped up their game with the live performance. They were really the only band on Scream it! that i liked. My overall favorite was probably Cannibal Corpse. Seeing Whitechapel for the 2nd time was really sweet, can't wait to see them again in a few weeks with All Shall Perish! \m/
Black DSi, Pink GBC, Softmodded Wii, Softmodded Fat Ps2, Black Gamecube, Xbox, Dreamcast, Ps1 Slim, Atomic Purple GBC, Onyx GBA SP, Gears of War 3 Edition Xbox 360 Slim, PSP 3000, NES.

I don't listen to much Doom Metal, but if I can find more bands like this, I think I'll get into it a lot more.

I've listened to a bit of that album and liked it. I think I'll listen to it again.

That's a sin I've also committed. :(

Bwah. Lamb of God, In Flames, Hatebreed, and Sylosis are gonna be doing a concert in November in San Antonio. I don't have a ride or anybody to roll with though. I need more headbanger friends.

^I wouldn't mind meeting people up for a show, but all the big cities (San Antonio, Dallas, etc) are pretty far away from me. That and there really aren't a lot of bands that both of us like enough for me to want to go out of my way to see live. (I'm not a big Lamb of God fan)

There's another one I want to hit at the White Rabbit in December. My parents are scared I'll get stabbed or something at the Rabbit, so I'd need to have someone they know to go with for a lot of this stuff.

The one in December is the "Everything Bigger in TEXAS Fest". Upon A Burning Body, The WordAlive, Veil of Maya, The Acacia Strain, Crown the Embire, Abiotic, and more to be announced. Upon A Burning Body is good, and Veil of Maya are friends of friends in a metal band. (Currently, my friends are really pushing for a guitarist. I can help with electric triangle or doing some work/awesome crap around stage. I want to dress up like a crusader and fight demons. Don't think they'll go for the idea. )
