Is it the humor that turned you off with The Evil Dead 2? That seems to be the main difference between the two movies. How did you feel about Army of Darkness?

I really like the influences, references, and people involved in this game. Evil Dead, Buffy, heavy metal bands, indie noisepop, arcade beat 'em ups, James Gunn, Tara Strong (Batgirl from the old Batman cartoons), Matt Rosembaum (The Flash in Justice League Unlimited and Lex Luthor on Smallville), 80s rock/pop, retro gaming, punk rock, etc, etc. It's just a mix of stuff and people that really appeal to me.

I think one of most obvious example of that cool, arcade style vibe in this game is Sparkle Hunting. I mean just look at this:

The bright colors, the big letters, the silly hearts, the numbers going towards your score, it just looks like a screen shot from an arcade game that could have come out years ago when the arcade scene wasn't dead

I couldn't play games anything but inverted for the longest time. Probably due to playing Freespace 2 on PC way back when. On a joystick. It makes sense. But there are games out there that don't offer inverted. Child of Eden does, but when I was playing it last year after getting used to the PS Move motion controls it seemed like normal controls made more sense than inverted when I switched to a controller. So somehow by playing with the motion controls so much I learned to play uninverted. Likely because they are like light gun controls. So after that switching back to inverted seemed off. At least for that game.

Anyway, enough rambling. I can play both inverted and normal now. More accurate with normal controls, generally.
My B/S/T thread! :)

oh no turn-off whatsoever. I still love Evil Dead 2. But I saw the first one first, and it blew my little mind way back when. So it's still my favorite. I like Army of Darkness just fine, but it's certainly my least favorite of the trilogy. I'm just more of a "cabin in the woods" kind of guy. Again, don't take that as a put-down. I love Evil Dead so much I even went out of my way to see all the unofficial Italian sequels (La Casa's) that are actually just unrelated films with the title slapped on them to try to get sell more tickets haha. Oh and I have Within The Woods burned on disc somewhere too, which was the short-film prequel to The Evil Dead that Raimi filmed to raise funds for the full release.

Right, so apparently there's a video of Suda's new project, Killer Is Dead...

But it hasn't been released to the public as of yet. It was shown at Gamescon. However, it has been said multiple times that it is not related to killer7, but Suda could be lying... we'll see.

I got the game finally, I definitely like it. I'm not very far, I just beat the first boss. Man that character and sequence was hilarious. Reminded me a lot of No More Heroes. This is way better than Shadows of the Damned already, humor especially. Feels like good old Suda.

I will say the combat leaves a bit to be desired though. It's fun and all but pretty much as simple as it gets. I wasn't expecting the next DMC or anything but it would have been cool to at least have a few different chainsaws.

I think one of the flaws of this game is that they give you practically nothing to start the game with. Combat really only starts to get fun after you acquire the better moves and combos. This makes LC a game that I think is more fun the second time through. I'll give you a tip. Use Nick Shake as much as possible. It'll help you upgrade faster and you may actually have Juliette be fairly strong before you get to the end of the game. Just remember around every check point in the game you can use Nick Shake again.

It feels kind of like the first playthrough is really about enjoying the story and crazy events of the game, and the second playthrough is where you start to have more fun with combat and start working on getting high ranks and finding hidden zombies and collectibles.

Just picked up a new copy at EB for 19.99 - apparently the game sold well its first week and then took a huge nosedive. Patience pays off again! :D

Kind of late, but I finally picked this up.

I with Gamerforlife, all the references, the feel and look of the game, the humor, it all works for me. I love how well the game manages to keep my interest, and it feels arcadey and straightforward, which is something I'm starting to appreciate in games. I love wide open RPG's, but sometimes I want to play for 15 minutes and bail.

And the soundtrack... I love it.
