Well I'm probably biased but that's my favorite era of FPS's, period. HL1 is towards the bottom of the list for me though, I'd take Deus Ex, System Shock 2, the Thief games, and Unreal over it. HL1 is about as simplistic as Unreal, but I still have no issues with it myself.
Anyways, yeah HL2 has aged really well too. Just compare it to Doom 3 from that time and it's obvious. I like how it's extremely linear but nothing about it ever feels forced and the story is never shoved down your throat. Kind of embarrassing nobody else really strikes that perfect balance of pace that HL2 had.

That's more a consequence of the level design. The Combine really wasn't given any good ambush or cover spots like how the Marines did, so it was generally just "stand in plain view and shoot".

Fucking immigrants. Their totalitarian regime can't even provide the same quality oppression as home grown ones.

And to be fair, until you get near the citadel and start fighting the "elite" soldiers dressed in white one should expect the combine to be less of a challenge than the marines in HL1. After all, the police in the beginning of the game are just thugs with pistols, and the standard soldiers are just the occupying force of the area. The marines in HL1 were supposed to be elite and all, especially since they were chosen to contain an alien breakout. The enemies at the end of HL2 have no exuse, though; they should have been smarter.

Black Mesa Source, Torchlight 2, and Borderlands 2 all come out on the same week...
Re: Black Mesa out in two weeks
Sounds like a structured day of Black Mesa in the morning, Borderlands in the afternoon, and Torchlight in the late evenings is the way to go.

Re: Black Mesa out in two weeks
Im thinking BL2 is primary, when I have the desire to, a quick run of Black Mesa Source, then when BL2 is completed the first time, its time to move into heavy TL2. Speaking of which I still have a copy I need to sell.

Holy shit, this isn't vaporware. This might be just the excuse I need to plow through Half-Life again to see if it lives up to my nostalgia. Play the original, then play Black Mesa for comparison's sake.

Be a man GSZX1337 and bind the same mouse and keyboard to two separate computers and play both at the same time. You can do it either via KVM and hop back and forth, or do it the right way and play both at the same time!

Hands on mice, feet on keyboards. It could work.
