Same thing I do. Though I tend to hit each section and at least mark them all read if it isn't a section I'm interested in.
You'll miss too much if you just click on the 'new' links and stuff. It also leads people to answer questions that were already answered previously because they didn't actually read the entire conversation.
Honestly, 90% of the time I come here, it's just "View My Posts" and see the threads I've contributed to. The other 10% is just active posts. (I'm waaaay too old for these kinds of post speeds.)

I finally joined the "View Active Topics" club recently. Yes, it's a superior way to browse the forums. Not sure why it took me so long to convert from "View new posts". Now I'm suitably enlightened.
