Any good 3D platformers/run and guns for 360?

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

I've been toying around with the idea of getting a 360 for SHMUPS but if I were to get a 360 again, I'd want more than just that to play on it. I'm a big fan of 3rd person action games (playing Ratchet and Clank Future right now, love the series) and I'm curious if there's anything like it on 360. I've been pretty much out of the 360 loop for a good 4 years so I'm not really familiar with anything that has come out on it recently.

Physical releases are preferred but no real issue with XBLA stuff either.

Hmm. I'll need to get your idea of run 'n gun to really comment. Some people consider Gears of War one, others are hardline believers that something Contra like needs to be have, etcetera. Either way, I suggest Vanquish. (Not sure if you have a PS3, you might already have it.)

Platformers? Not all that much to choose from. Sonic Generations is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

I can't think of anything like the Ratchet and Clank games. They've carved out their own niche. Platformers in general are not a strong genre on the 360

Shadow Complex is the only thing that comes to mind.

My friends and I in 8th grade or so used to play the shit out of that game from after school to 3am every other week or so. Definitely on my list to get. 8)

Kameo looks pretty interesting but I've never played or even seen it outside of the internet. Anybody have input on that one?

I have only played it a little. It's definitely a little launch/first-gen-ey, though not necessarily in a bad way (unlike, say, Perfect Dark Zero). I haven't played Ratchet and Clank to compare it to those, but you can usually find Kameo for under $5 used on Amazon, and seemed well worth that.

Maijin and the Forbidden Kingdom might be another one to look into. While it's on PS3 as well, for some reason the 360 version is usually cheaper ($5ish new on Amazon, whereas the PS3 version is $23).

I mainly got a 360 for XBLA and I can tell you it didn't disappoint.

In the same vein as EDF 2017 I'd also check out Vanquish. Really great, underrated 3rd person shooter with fast action and great controls.

This statement makes me feel really, really old.

*sigh* I guess time to date myself even more...

If you like Earth Defense Force 3: 2017, mod your PS2, get a TV that can accept 50Hz signals, and import this bad boy:

Global Defense Force (Earth Defense Force 2) is like 2017....but better.
