Just watched my Criterion copy of Videodrome that came in yesterday. I'm not sure I'd actually seen the whole thing before. Great Cronenberg movie, especially after watching all the extra bits on the discs and finding out he was still working on the script while it was being filmed.

Was a bit disappointed that the lady member of the team didn't get to cut loose as much.

Chuck Norris was amazing in this.
I thought she was utilized perfectly and had one of the better fight scenes. Also thought Chuck was really, really stiff in this, but that is picking nits.

PARANORMAN

I wasn't expecting this to be that good. It's better than good. It's funny, intelligent, spooky, sad, heartwarming, heartbreaking, entertaining, beautiful and memorable. I didn't watch it in 3D, but I've seen enough movies in 3D to recommend NOT seeing this in 3D. The animation looks perfect in 2D, and the textures are so brilliant that 3D would take away from it.

PARANORMAN has great dialogue that although in a stop animated world, makes the characters seem real as they are easy to connect with. For what the movie sets out to do, it accomplishes everything in spades. Highly, highly recommend this.

As the Summer is coming to a close, looking back, it's been a pretty good Summer for movies. I still don't understand the release dates of some movies, but I'm guessing execs didn't want to have three JGL movies released so close together. Not sure why, worked for Chris Hemsworth.

Paranorman has the same animation studio that worked on Coraline.

Of course that probably wouldn't surprise anyone. I mean, how many stop motion animation studios are there anyway?

Watching the geriatric Expendables on screen was borderline excruciating. All the roids, makeup and botox couldn't cover the fact these action stars (aside from Crews and Li) were rapidly decomposing shot by painful shot.

Stallone looked like he was wearing a mask of himself.

After Arnold left to run California into the ground no one had the screen presence, the charisma or likeability to replace him.

I was thinking, If they make a movie featuring the action heroes of today, who would make the list? There are no action heroes of today. Just shallow shells of men. Rambo has been replaced with glittery vampires. I weep for us all.

Yup. Coraline looked a teeny tad bit smoother imo, but that doesn't say much. Norman is the better movie.

Man, no more Tony Scott. Sad and crazy news. Life is nuts.

Yeah, this bums be out. A bit eerie in light of our recent discussion of his work in this thread...

That's basically what I've been hearing. I liked Coraline well enough, so this should be worth a watch. My girlfriend wants to see it.

Pretty sure the "action hero" died out like, in the mid-90s. Those kinds of movies haven't been made in a really long time.

Guess it is time to start planning for a Tony Scott movie marathon party for this weekend. I wonder if I can pass off a duck for a goose? Volleyball nets are cheap right?
