Maybe it's safe to call them equal; the N64 may have a bunch of phenomenal multiplayer games, but nothing can beat a 4-player wavebird setup on the 'Cube.pumpkinpie65 wrote:Even over the Gamecube??lisalover1 wrote: As much as I love my Dreamcast, I have to agree that the N64 is the best multiplayer console of all time.

I had to ask, since you seemed so into the Gamecubelisalover1 wrote:Maybe it's safe to call them equal; the N64 may have a bunch of phenomenal multiplayer games, but nothing can beat a 4-player wavebird setup on the 'Cube.pumpkinpie65 wrote:Even over the Gamecube??lisalover1 wrote: As much as I love my Dreamcast, I have to agree that the N64 is the best multiplayer console of all time.
But I really love the Gamecube too and now that I'm thinking about it I don't know.... It seems like Gamecube's got pretty much everything N64's got, with most of it improved.
Harper, I gotta say... I think pretty much everyone else in the world would agree that Melee > SSB
N64 had what? Goldeneye, Mario Tennis, Mario Party 1-3, Wave Race 64, and Diddy Kong Racing?
Gamecube had Timesplitters 2 & Future Perfect; new Mario tennis, golf, baseball, and soccer games; Mario Party 4-7, Wave Race Blue Storm, and Kirby Air Ride!
I don't know. Maybe I just have a soft spot in my heart for Gamecube. My last year at college though we definitely played the Gamecube more than the N64. But honestly I've never really dove in to many 4-player N64 games. Are there any other greats that I missed?

Hey, whatever. Wouldn't be the first time I'm in the minority when it comes to gaming preferences. hahapumpkinpie65 wrote:Harper, I gotta say... I think pretty much everyone else in the world would agree that Melee > SSB![]()

SNES - hell yes.Gooseberrysoda wrote:My roommate and I decided upon a SNES. We've got some fighting games and beat 'em ups and we're good to go OH MAN
I really, genuinely considered bringing my CD-i 910 along just for fun, but decided against it because that guy is way too heavy.
CDi - hell no.

Harper, I gotta say... I think pretty much everyone else in the world would agree that Melee > SSBbut I'm not sure about Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash. If I recall correctly, there was some passionate defense of Double Dash in the Best Gamecube games to own forever thread. (I actually prefer Mario Kart Wii myself)

F-Zero X
Banjo Tooie
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Gauntlet Legends
Perfect Dark
NBA Hangtime (as well as Showtime)
Turok 2 Seeds of Evil
Turok 3 Shadow of Oblivion
Turok Rage Wars
Excitebike 64
Jet Force Gemini (if you don't get too frustrated by the controls, lol)
San Francisco Rush 2049 (and the other Rush games, but I've heard 2049's the best one)
NFL Blitz
Many of the wrestling games (like No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000)
There's plenty of other 4 player games I haven't mentioned but those are the ones off the top of my head that I can think of (besides those you mentioned).

Maybe the Wii should get this crown on a technicality, since it can legitimately play both N64 and GC games, as well as its own library. Now that I think about it, I have logged far more hours into playing multiplayer Cube games like Melee, Tales of Symphonia, Four Swords, Kirby Air Ride, Wave Race, Donkey Konga, Pikmin 2, and all the Mario Party games than I have with my N64, by far.pumpkinpie65 wrote:I had to ask, since you seemed so into the Gamecubelisalover1 wrote: Maybe it's safe to call them equal; the N64 may have a bunch of phenomenal multiplayer games, but nothing can beat a 4-player wavebird setup on the 'Cube.![]()

As for Mario Kart. 64 is considered by many to be the best of the best, with only DS coming close to it. There are several reasons for it, but mostly because it was the last one where both Racing and Battle were perfect. On DD battle was excellent, but racing was soso. On Wii racing was excellent but battle was, well lets not talk about that. Now I havent played 3ds, or read much about it, but I do know that when we do a game day the two most requested games are Mario Kart 64 and Saturn Bomberman. So we typically did a dedicated of each, with another TV that can do either (I own 2 bomberman setups now...).

Good point. Actually the Wii would be a landslide winner in multiplayer if the Wii Virtual Console included all those N64 titles from Rare that had multiplayer.....but that's not gonna happen....
The only reason I still hold onto my Gamecube (instead of upgrading to a Wii) is the Game Boy Player (which ironically used to belong to my brothers but they gave it to me after their 2nd Gamecube stopped working and they got a Wii). I feel bad though because I don't use the GBP much, but I want to get a better controller to use it on. Which reminds me......you can still do some multiplayer on the GBP as well. It may be a bit unorthodox but it's better than nothing I guess (Luckily some GBA games allow you to do multiplayer with a single cartridge).
Oddly enough for me, the Gamecube is the console I've spent the least time playing multiplayer on since the NES when the only multiplayer I did on that system was my mother and I on the alternating two player mode on Super Mario Bros.
