I think the reason that the N64 has more retro cachet than the PS1 is twofold: One, due to a contrast in demographic. The N64 was aimed at a much younger audience than the PlayStation; most PS1 owners were likely teenagers and older, so the console didn't leave quite as big of a mental impression on them as the N64 did on its audience. Second, the N64, like the Gamecube, had a very few select games that everyone played. This creates a shared experience amongst its owners, which is a huge help to nostalgia.
I wouldn't bring my PS3 anywhere near a bunch of strangers for an extended period of time. If I were going to be living in a dorm, I'd most likely only bring a modded PSP. As for consoles, if any I would only bring ones that are easily replaced and don't store data I might lose if it's stolen/broken/some idiot messes with it.
Your N64 will be your best friend or your worst enemy. It's great! People enjoy your room now. Just... set some limits to game times, or people will start loving your room. You don't want that.
I will tell you one thing, and one thing only: SMASH BROS. nothing brings a group of people together quite like that game. well at least for me and my group of friends. we live off of melee and we have so much fun with it. we will often play for hours. It's a good pick.

...it attracts women, but not neccesarily the type you want. The girls who go to you JUST for things like your videogames, TV, or other such things are either looking for a sugar daddy or someone to pull a F&C on... of course, you might be looking for F&C, so, y'know.

Yup. If you want to make friends real fast. Bring an N64
If you want like easy to setup consoles where you plug in and can pick up and play tye games I would go n64 and game cube. Game cube is small and easy to store and most games are nice n cheap. I also recommend Modded Xbox with LOTS of emulators. Why is it called OXbox here?

N64 sucks. I'll agree with bruno about not bringing anything with internal memory, or that is delicate/expensive or may overheat from overuse when your friends are playing it all the time. Honestly, I'd go with a Dreamcast, four controllers and spindle of CDR's.
