Nope. I just tried it on the player on the front page and the page for the episode, and both worked fine for me.Jmustang1968 wrote:Any idea why the show isn't playing for him?dsheinem wrote:Ok, got ya.KDub wrote:The "file not found" happen when I hit play
Changing this "The podcast isn't apart of other sites, there are no other podcasts or video shows here...there just isn't a new crowd coming in all the time for the show. It is mostly for us here on the forums and we kind of know what a lot of your opinions are on the topics already." would be branching out. Not in topic but in presence.
So, other than spamming a bunch of forums with links to the show, how would you suggest branching out? I honestly don't have a good idea of how to advertise the show much beyond the front page presence here and a few threads that I update on 1-2 other forums I visit. Have you had luck promoting Retroactive with a particular strategy?

May I suggest more cowbell?
I may be wrong but it looks like people would like more advertisement to make them aware of the great guests. Maybe look at sending mass PMs or a flashier post to advertise each episode.
I like the podcast, but I can see where I feel like a lurker on a message board when listening. I think if you are trying to attract the attention of people who aren't interested in the guests or topics you would have to have something more relevant to all... or modern. I have noticed that my reviews of last week's comics get more attention at my site than when I talk about an old favorite. Maybe come up with segments that can get more people's attention - for example pick a retro game of the 'cast and have people on the forums a week or two before share their opinions takes and knowledge. Then you can use those responses during the 'cast. This way those who participated will listen to see if their stuff was used (if it is they may be more likely to share with their friends) and you pull in more people from outside sources. Plus this idea would let more personalities be heard (I'm thinking Jim Rome type takes - WITHOUT THE SMACK CRAP) and that may bring in outside listeners.
The key is entertainment first and knowledge second. I am looking at Retro Gamer magazine as a reference to my idea.
Just my 2 cents.

On thing I will say about it, is that to me it seems a bit talky. Thats no bad thing, but I tend to zone out after a while. There's a lot of good content there, but segments can tend to go on a bit long and I feel it could do with being broken up a little more often, probably with a few other short bits of game music or similar. I'm of the generation of people with short attention spans

I think we could manage this. Have you listened to the oster interview? If so, what would you think of the amount of music breaks there?alienjesus wrote:On thing I will say about it, is that to me it seems a bit talky. Why waste the energy to even write this post?BoringSupreez wrote:Well, as someone who has never listened to your podcast I'll give you my $0.02. I've never felt compelled to bother listening. What makes your podcast worth listening to? I have no idea. It's not very well publicized. I don't know what sort of podcast it is. It could be full of in jokes that a newcomer wouldn't understand, like Three Red Lights was back when I used to listen to that on IGN. Maybe it's a dry old man sort of podcast, full of hard info. Like I said, I don't know.
And to be honest, from what little discussion I've seen about the podcast on the site I've always gotten the vibe that only the RB inner circle can really get anything out of or put anything into the podcast, and since I'm one of the majority of members who's just another anonymous face in the crowd... to be honest, this is probably the main reason I've never bothered with the podcast. It kinda seems like the podcast is created by and for the moderating team/site admins. Now, as I've never actually listened to an episode I could be totally wrong but that's just the impression I've gotten over the years.

Re: The Racketboy Podcast - thoughts?
I haven't. I've only listened to a few of the podcasts, some of which were back in the dsheinem only days, and the others of which were all of the other variety where you two discuss what you've been playing etc.Jmustang1968 wrote:I think we could manage this. Re: The Racketboy Podcast - thoughts?
I don't have a long commute or free time to put a lot of podcast time in but I do try to check out each episode. If the interview is around a genre I'm not too interested in, I may just listen to the beginning and multi-task. I really liked Episode #37 - MassDigi.
I like the non-interview episodes as I like to hear the retrohunting stories. I always pick up a tidbit or two news-wise that I missed.

It's "Podcast Constructive Criticism from BoringSupreez, non-podcast listener".
I get BS is saying "draw the listener in, then I'll listen", but I don't think that is what Dave is asking feedback on. Not to put words in his mouth, but I'd bet toddlers to tiaras that he wants to know from listeners what he and Stang can do to improve the show.
A few thoughts:
Wouldn't it be great if it was easy as having someone call in and have great audio quality? Audio sounds very well, and no popping p's. +
Energy. The podcast needs more energy and natural laughter. Don't go Howie Mandel, but try to keep up enthusiasm as much as possible. Same with the music selection.
Create more creative episode titles and don't write a paragraph on what the episode is about. I don't care how silly it is, the Title of the podcast means more than the description. Again, I don't care how dumb it is (bad example to follow).
# 88: OUT RUN HAS RUN OUT
Dave and Stang review the history of SMS racing games, their personal favorite racing games and a surprise interview with John Darsh.
Go off topic and tie in personal stories. I'm sure you all know this is called "building a bridge" and I would like to hear a lot more of it. I "build bridges" so often that my wife actually makes a bridge formation with her hands and fingers when I start to tell a story.
Rely less on guests, you two should be the stars of the show.
Best of luck.
