Best dorm room console?

I'm headed off to become a college freshman, and I'm trying to decide which console(s) are the best for my dorm room. I'll have an HDTV and a couple of power strips; what do you recommend?

Id say a Slim PS2.

Its a dvd player and a ps1

Slim Ps2's dont need the IR reciever from the phat PS2. They have it built in. That way you can get a remote and not worry about controler cords.

The PS2's been around for more than a decade and there's plenty of retrogames that you can play with.

And if you got the money obviously, you can get the 80 or 60 GB PS3. Its even better with all the full backwards compatability and BLURAY!

Honestly? A modded Xbox or cheap home theater PC.

No risk of anybody making off with one of your games after a dorm party and takes up much less space.

At a first year at college, you really don't want to distract yourself too much or have things people want to steal, especially if you don't know what kind of roomate you might end up with. Having a TV also means people will want to come to your room for entertainment. This can be good and bad. Honestly I wouldn't take much when you first head off. See how things go, both people and schedule wise, then maybe take more later.

Your PS3, since it's still current and is BC with the PS1.
Your GBA, as the GBA library is awesome and the GBC and GB libraries have some gems in them as well.
And your N64 because the 64 rocks. Get N or get out.

This. Maybe put games on your laptop? The PS3 is too much a temptation of getting stolen. If you need a console, get a PS2 Fat with a hard drive. Install your games and leave the all the game discs and cases home. Saves dorm space and only risk is the PS2 getting stolen.

This. In college, there is a substantial risk that anything you bring will be broken or damages by other people; so, I would not bring anything irreplacable. Also, you will likely be sharing the television with other people; so, it is unlikely that you will be able to play many console games that are not "audience friendly". Accordingly, if - like me - you occasionally enjoy diving into 80+ hour JRPGs, you might want to bring a hand held system.

That said, video games are a good excuse to people (including possible love interests) visit your dorm room and generally just hang out. Everyone will have an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3; so, if you want people to come by your room, you should have something unique - but not irreplaceable - like a Super Nintendo (with Super Mario World), a Nintendo 64 (with Mario Kart 64) or a Dreamcast.

Finally, I remember my college years very fondly, and I am a little bit jealous of any one heading off for a higher education. If you are mindful of your grades, make good decisions, and take advantage of the innumerable academic and cultrual opportunities offered by a modern university - you will have a very good time. Video games will be there when you get out; so, spend your college years paying attention to courses that will make you an interesting, well-educated person and forming life-long friendships.

I would also like to point out that, despite this thread, college it not full of thieves. If you are unlucky, some of your things might get stolen - just as they might get stolen if you were not heading off to college - but since you will be moving a lot (and living with other young, irresponsible people), it is much more likely that things will get damaged.

My point here is that, you should not go into college with the expectation that everyone will try to rob you. (They are there for the same reason you are; and presumably, you would not steal someones gaming console.) Use common sense (i.e., lock your dorm room when you leave, don't leave things in public places), and you are unlikely to have anything valuable taken from you. (Damaged, however, is a different story...)
