That's a far cry from "movie of the year" which you kept repeatedly calling it iirc. It had a few well done scenes, some moments of good dialogue, and it was cast smartly...but the characters are entirely unsympathetic and the plot was extremely predictable. The "scares" had zero bite to them. I've seen Resident Evil movies that I thought were better.Luke wrote:Attack the Block was a fun and easy watch.
What was the last movie you've seen?

At the time of release (or whenever I saw it), it was the best movie of the year. I'll stand by that. I think that was back in February (could be wrong).dsheinem wrote:That's a far cry from "movie of the year" which you kept repeatedly calling it iirc.Luke wrote:Attack the Block was a fun and easy watch.

So I guess last year then. I barely remember last years movie schmuck fest. Attack the Block was fun, I'll always say that. Way better than SUPER 8. THE MUPPETS may have been my favorite movie of 2011 actually. RISE OF THE APES was fun, but nothing ground breaking. CAPTAIN AMERICA was fun and a great watch, but was no IRON MAN.
So yeah. In a year of shitty movies, ATTACK was pretty good compared to its competition. Probably in my top five movies of 2011. I mean, c'mon dish. GREEN HORNET, GREEN LANTERN, BAD TEACHER, RED RIDING HOOD, THE SMURFS, THE THING REMAKE, HORRIBLE BOSSES, and after watching a shit ton of awful movies, at least ATTACK was fun.
ABC passed on Cage and Jessica Jones. Wonder what Marvel character they'll choose.

Yeah, no. I don't think so at all.MrPopo wrote: Check and mate.

Thanks to the internet, we have choices and a season is never dull.. unless you solely watch new releases in theatre that is
Attack was watchable, but I felt nothing toward the characters; after all they'd knife you in a heartbeat if you stood up to them, the twats.. in fact I had rooted more for the amateurly-rendered monsters.

The Way
Emilio Estevez rarely pokes out his head of wherever he is, but The Way is pretty damn good. Reasonably authentic, heartfelt and even refreshing.. my only gripe is the use of songs that didn't fit the milieu. Who listens to Alanis Morissette walking the Camino? O.o

@Luke: Movie of the Year is Cabin in the Woods. And you know this man.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
2011 was a pretty decent year for films, actually. I have seen you praise Best Picture The Artist, but all of the Academy awards for best picture - with the exception of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Boring were much better than Attack the Block.Luke wrote:

If Attack of the Block, The Muppets, or Bridesmaids were anywhere near your top five for last year - or any year - you just need to watch better movies
