Yeah, but Battle Royale is the first and only one I could think of when I was watching this. I think it took me less than one minute to make the comparison. It's just too obvious...BurningDoom wrote:It's a rip-off of a 100 different sci-fi and comic stories.elmagicochrisg wrote:The Hunger Games

Battle Royale rip-off !!!
That's not saying it's bad movie. Not a good one either. But entertaining enough to keep me watching till the end...

A summer blockbuster ought to be a chance to turn the old fart of a brain off and enjoy the ride.. but when it's this dumb it's simply too much.AppleQueso wrote:I have to askPulsar_t wrote: Battleship
A perfect example of the morbid intellectual depravity of the summer blockbuster; the days of Godzilla and Armageddon weren't half as bad. I actually think I became a bit dumber after watching this. NASA and space scientists were ridiculed for no reason, and the alien plot made no sense whatsoever, not to mention the ridiculous amount of lens flares. Fuck you very much.
The film did make me think of something else though.. oversized militaries are no longer feasible in today's world; short of a half-arsed alien invasion like the one in this garbage flick
...what did you expect?
Someone I know described it as "so dumb it's good". Sounds like a great movie for MST3K riffing.

Didn't expect very much of this knowing that it was about emotions and people more than science fiction. But I was pleasantly surprised. Not a bad movie. Just don't expect aliens and space stuff and stuff...

I also like to know as little as possible when watching films, and I knew Another Earth wasn't a scifi thriller at all, but I came out all the better after watching it. As I wrote earlier, it's one of those special, personal indie flicks that you can't help but like, at the very least.

Pontypool
I only found this via a random search for relatively unknown films. It is just terrific; the psychological horror felt fresh and nothing pretentious like a David Lynch movie either.

Battle Royale rip-off !!!
That is the real difference in my opinion. Battle Royale is bleak and even at the end when people do survive you never get the impression that they won or are going to have a real life. The system is too big.
Hunger Games is the opposite of that.

Let's either make the new Dumb & Dumber or not.
I'm not at Ghostbusters III level frustration, but for crying out loud, either release the news it is in the works or not.
