It was the first thing to come out of the Republican primary race that actually made me interested in the political process. Then he went and pulled a Clinton.dsheinem wrote:You'd have liked Newt Gingrich as president, I guess.Luke wrote: I doubt in my lifetime I'll see a US President that is an actual leader. Re: Curiousity
How cool is it that they were able to time the Mars orbiter to take and send a snapshot of the rover as it was landing?

The amount of science firing on all cylinders here is really a wonder to behold in and of itself, regardless of whatever they find on Mars.

Re: Curiousity
Why are we sending ANOTHER rover to Mars? I never even heard anything about this before today.
Re: Curiousity
That's pretty awesome, both the timing and the fact that resolution on that camera.
Are you saying we should instead be gearing up for manned missions? I definitely want that, but sending robotic missions in the meantime will give us more information so the manned missions can be more targeted in what they do.Why are we sending ANOTHER rover to Mars? Re: Curiousity
Why not? Learning about other planets can help us better understand geological changes in our own, the process itself is incredibly inspiring, and the images from even the older rovers are breathtaking:Sideroller wrote:Why are we sending ANOTHER rover to Mars? I can't wait to see what this new rover returns once it's high end cameras get shooting
Over 8 years, the Curiosity project has cost about 2.5 billion, or roughly .000625 of our 2012 federal budget alone. Money VERY well spent, I think.
Re: Curiousity
Before Curiosity had come up in the news (when it was a month out) I'd been in the middle of reading the Red Mars trilogy. This just gets me even more excited about the prospect of getting people to Mars.

I came into this Thread curious what it was about, maybe needs a more descriptive title?
Sci Fi channel is supposed to be doing a special tonight, should be interesting. I hope that real proof of ancient life is found. A long shot hope, but actual evidence, maybe a fossil?

Re: Curiousity
Right, so when does the rover find the Mass Effect Relay?
Didn't see it, but I always find this stuff interesting. I justwait for the day when we can inhabit space and have colonies all over the milky way.

Re: Curiousity
I just find that red planet so intoxicating. Very much looking forward to pictures.
I certainly wouldn't mind if they built a colony there and invited me.
