A perfect example of the morbid intellectual depravity of the summer blockbuster; the days of Godzilla and Armageddon weren't half as bad. I actually think I became a bit dumber after watching this. NASA and space scientists were ridiculed for no reason, and the alien plot made no sense whatsoever, not to mention the ridiculous amount of lens flares. Fuck you very much.

The film did make me think of something else though.. oversized militaries are no longer feasible in today's world; short of a half-arsed alien invasion like the one in this garbage flick
I have to ask

...what did you expect?

Someone I know described it as "so dumb it's good". Sounds like a great movie for MST3K riffing.

THE MADNESS OF KING GEORGE

Brilliant. I would imagine this movie is a high school English teacher's wet dream. Compelling, entertaining, humorous, well written, and flat out good.

The title won't fool you, the movie relies mostly on the relationship King George has with his family, but more importantly his therapist. The doctor/patient dynamic is in full swing, and that's a topic I have always found fascinating, much like the professor/student dynamic.

My personal belief is that when you are on my dime, I own the keys to the car and will disagree even if you think it's in my best interest to not. Cooler heads prevail, but I have no issue of telling a doctor "I'm not finished with you yet" or telling a professor "If my grade is affected by my lack of attendance, I will speak to the dean as I ace every one of your exams and watching you read power point presentations is a waste of my time".

There's a great exchange in THE MADNESS OF KING GEORGE that sums it up:

King George: I AM THE KING OF ENGLAND!!!!
Doctor: As of now, you are MY PATIENT!!!!

Or something close to that (I didn't log the quotes).

Not everyone will be thrilled with the "movie", but I think it is safe to say everyone will be thrilled with the story.

Check it out.

Oh, Noise... I love SFII animated movie. The Chun-Li fight scene in her pajamas was a little racy, but I'll always remember watching the animated movie and thinking "One day they'll make a live action movie that's even better!" How naive I was.

Why did they make sequels to the Toxic Avenger? The first one was an attempt at a horror film that turned out to be goofy fun... the ones after that were random and twisted shit intended to elicit something. They also have some weird celebrities in them. Like Ron Jeremy. Why?

Why? Because people paid to see them. The fourth one (Citizen Toxie) is amazing.

I knew you would comment...

The second and third I couldn't get into. The fourth one... ehh, the beginning is a little too far out there for me, but the rest is okay.

Agreement here. It was just flat-out cool. It was exactly what one would've expected from a Street Fighter movie back then. It's easily the best movie ever based on a fighting game.

Have you ever read the Udon comic series by any chance? Best Street Fighter-related media around imo.

Never even heard of the Udon comic.

I'm putting SFII animated on my queue. I remember the animation being a little anime, but not sloppy anime. The fight scenes were awesome and the characters were well portrayed. The story is a bit fuzzy in my memory, but I remember not really caring about the story. Only remember the movie kicking ass and being nonstop fun.

Sounds about right to me!.

Honestly, I've only ever read a couple of individual issues of the Udon comic, but I was really happy with what I'd read, and I think the series as a whole is probably worth checking out. It manages to juggle a really, REALLY large cast and a lot of plot threads in a way that actually manages to work for the most part. Art ranges from really nice to kinda derpy, but it always works. (it's the same artists behind the SFII HD remix thing on PSN). It's not like, perfect or anything by any means, but it's a great interpretation of the franchise mythos. If they were to ever do another shot at a tv series of some sort or something, I'd be on board if they based it on those comics.

(I haven't read it in a really long time, so I hope I'm not about to put my foot in my mouth)

Been kinda eyeballing this. Might bite on it in a few weeks.
